What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from back to school prep to bring you the latest releases to home media for July 31, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a comedic remake, a refreshing look at parenthood, a LEGO movie, and an animated story in a galaxy far, far away. Let’s get started.
Overboard (PG-13)
Metascore: 42
Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez) is a billionaire, selfish, playboy from Mexico who hires working-class mother Kate (Anna Faris) to clean his luxury yacht, and firing her without pay after she finished the job. After he falls overboard and develops amnesia, Kate shows up at the hospital and convinces him and the hospital staff that he’s her husband. Hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Eva Longoria, John Hannah, and Swoosie Kurtz, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is a remake of the 1987 comedy starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and it’s nice to see this done from the other perspective. Give it a watch.
Tully (R)
Metascore: 75
Marlo (Charlize Theron) is a mother of three, including a newborn baby, and she’s going through it big time. Her brother Craig (Mark Duplass) gifts her a nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis) to help out around the house. Initially hesitant, she begins to accept and bond with her. This film, which also stars Ron Livingston, Asher Miles Fallica, and Steven Roberts, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is a very powerful story, and its one that’s not really discussed in entertainment. I highly recommend it.
LEGO DC Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis
Aquaman (Dee Bradley Baker) has to make some tough decisions to make sure his kingdom is safe. After an unexpected attack from Atrocitus (Jonathan Adams) and the Red Lanterns, he realizes he has to go back to his roots – including rejoining the Justice League – in order to find out who he really is. This film, which also stars Susan Eisenberg, Troy Baker, and Grey Griffin, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. The LEGO movies are pretty fun, and – whereas this isn’t Jason Momoa and Jason Momoa’s abs – it’s still worth checking out for your kids.
Star Wars Rebels: Complete Season Four
The final season of the beloved Disney XD series features some of the greatest storytelling from Star Warsto date. Friends are reunited and new alliances are created that bringRebelsto its epic conclusion and connecting the entire Star Warssaga. This series, which stars Taylor Gray, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Vanessa Marshall, is available in a three disc DVD version. This has been a spectacular franchise, and it’s worth checking out for any Star Wars fan.
