BluTuesday - March 13, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from my last day at my old job to bring you the latest releases to home media for March 13, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss Oscar winners, Oscar nominees, disappointments, and a bull. Let’s get to it.

Call Me by Your Name (R)
Metascore: 93

In 1983 Italy, Elio (Timothée Chalamet) is a 17-year-old who spends his days playing reading, classical music, and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel). However, when a young American scholar named Oliver (Armie Hammer) comes in as an intern, the two start a passionate affair that will change their lives forever. This film, which also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, and Victorie Du Bois, is available in single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version.

Ferdinand (PG)
Metascore: 58

Ferdinand (John Cena) is a chill little bull. As he gets older, he gets bigger and stronger, but he’s still a chill bull. However, when five men come looking for bulls for the matadors to fight, Ferdinand gets picked up by accident. Hilarity ensues. This film, which also features the voices of Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, and Daveed Diggs, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. This is a good movie for the kids to check out, so put it on for them.

I, Tonya (R)
Metascore: 77

Margot Robbie plays Tonya Harding, one of the most infamous figure skaters of all time. Driven by an insatiable will to be the best figure skater of all time, she finds herself in the middle of an ill-conceived attack on fellow Olympian Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver). This film, which also stars Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, and Julianne Nicholson, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. The story of Tonya Harding is a fascinating one, and all parties involved put on a tour-de-force performance. This is one that you cannot miss.

Justice League (PG-13)
Metascore: 45

After the death of Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) bring together a group of exceptional people – Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Flash (Ezra Miller) – to defend the world from the villainous Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds). This film, which also stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, and Diane Lane, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, and a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. How in the name of all things just and holy does a movie featuring the Holy Trinity of the DC Universe fail? This is a disappointing film on all levels, and the powers that be should be ashamed.

The Shape of Water (R)
Metascore: 87

From the mind of Guillermo del Toro comes the supernatural fairy tale The Shape of Water. Set during the Cold War in America, Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in her isolated life. Her life changes forever when she and her co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) stumble upon a secret experiment known only as “Amphibian Man” (Doug Jones). This film, which also stars Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Stuhlbarg, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a stunning film with stunning performances and it’s something everyone should see.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
