What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from melting in the summer heat to bring you the latest releases to home media for May 29th and June 5th, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss going to the ends of the earth for the one you love, an adaptation of an award-winning novel, an unnecessary remake, another entry to a long-running comedy, and the penultimate season of a Naval drama. Let’s get to it.
Annihilation (R) – NOTE: This was released on May 29th.
Metascore: 79
Lena (Natalie Portman), a soldier-turned-biologist, joins a mission to the mysterious Area X – a mysterious phenomenon expanding the American coastline – in order to find her husband Kane (Oscar Isaac). Once inside Area X, they discover an alien landscape that threatens both their lives and their sanity. This film, which also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a a single disc DVD version. This film will keep you on the edge of your seat from the opening scene to the very last frame. Check it out.
A Wrinkle in Time (PG)

Based on the Newberry Medal-winning novel by Madeline L’Engle of the same name, this film centers around the story of Meg Murry (Storm Reid) as she travels across dimensions with her friend Calvin (Levi Miller) and her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) to find her father (Chris Pine). Her guides on this journey are the celestials Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling). This film, which also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, and Zach Galifianakis, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version. This is a fun film that speaks to the child in all of us; it’s beautiful, it’s well-acted, and it has a strong positive message for everyone. I highly recommend this.
Death Wish (R)

Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who is distanced from the crime and problems his city faces. However, when his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and daughter (Camila Morrone) are victims of a brutal home invasion and the police force is spread too thin to do anything about it, Dr. Kersey takes the law into his own hands. This film, which also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Dean Norris, and Kimberly Elise, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. I’m not sure who asked for this, but they shouldn’t have. No, really; they shouldn’t have. Releasing this film when they did reeks of tone deafness and should be avoided at all costs.
South Park: The Complete Twenty-First Season

In the 21st season of the long-running Comedy Central TV series, Cartman, Kenny, Stan, and Kyle are up to their old tricks. With water bears, the underbelly of social media, and their long-standing feud with Canada just some of the things they tackle, no one is safe. This series, which stars Matt Stone and Trey Parker, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version. At this point, there is nothing I can say or do to turn the tide on you watching this series either way. Have at it.
The Last Ship: The Complete Fourth Season
Metascore: N/A
In the penultimate season of this TNT drama, former Navy Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) has left the ship life and taken his family to a remote fishing town in Greece. Meanwhile, Captain Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) and the crew of the USS Nathan James (DDG-151) have discovered the virus has started infecting the world’s food supply. Their finding a cure for the virus has them cross paths with their former Captain, who finds himself battling demons of his own. This series, which stars Charles Parnell, Marissa Neitling, and Christina Elmore, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a three disc DVD version. As this series begins to wind down, things are starting to heat up. It’s worth a watch.
