BluTuesday – August 28, 2018

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from enjoying high school football to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 28, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss a very serious game, the devilish details, and the stretchiest man alive. Let’s get to it.

Based on a true story…no, it really is, this film tells the story of five friends (Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Jake Johnson, and Hannibal Buress) who get together for one month out of the year to play their favorite childhood game. However, this year’s meetup comes around just in time for the wedding of their only undefeated player – Jerry Pierce (Renner). The other four have to hatch a plan to finally get him, but he knows they’re coming. Hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Annabelle Wallis, Isla Fisher, and Rashida Jones, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is actually a very sweet and heartwarming movie, and I’m bucking my trend with comedies and highly recommending this one.

Lucifer: The Complete Third Season

In the third season of this wildly popular Fox series, the titular character (Tom Ellis) has problems. Not only does he have to deal with figuring out who kidnapped him at the end of last season AND why his angel wings are back, but he also has to deal with new police lieutenant Clark Kent – I mean, Marcus Pierce (Tom Welling). When Lt. Pierce begins to develop a connection to Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), Lucifer’s streak starts heating up. This series, which also stars Lesly-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, and Rachael Harris, is available in a five disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. This show is a lot of fun, and adding Welling to the cast makes it even more entertaining. Check it out.

The Flash: The Complete Fourth Season

In the fourth season of the CW drama, Team Flash tries to go on without Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), instead using Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) as their resident speedster. But, when they have to bring Barry back from his self-imposed exile to the Speed Force, a new threat arises in Clifford DeVoe, aka The Thinker (Neil Sandilands). Alongside newcomer Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), Barry has to find a new way to save the day, a way that doesn’t involve being the Fastest Man Alive. This series, which also stars Candice Patton, Danielle Pannabaker, and Carlos Valdes, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a five disc DVD version. This season had spurts of brilliance followed up by long stretches of stupid. I don’t know how to quantify this season other than saying it’s “meh.” I know that’s not a ringing endorsement, but that’s what they gave us.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
