BluTuesday - September 27, 2016

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from finally being able to enjoy this wonderful fall weather to bring you the latest releases to home media for September 27, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss an unlikely duo, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, a different kind of raunchy comedy, and a video game movie “blockbuster.” Let’s get right to it, shall we?

Central Intelligence (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 69%

This film tells the story of Bob (Dwayne Johnson), a former bullied high school geek who grows up to become a highly-trained CIA agent. When Bob needs help on a big case, he turns to former “big man on campus” Calvin (Kevin Hart), and hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Amy Ryan, Thomas Kretschmann, and Jason Bateman, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. You can’t swing a stick in Hollywood without hitting a Kevin Hart or Dwayne Johnson movie, and now these two big stars are chewing the scenery together. What’s not to like? Give it a watch and have fun.

Cell (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 8%

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, this film tells the story of Clay Riddell (John Cusack) who witnesses a horrific scene at Boston-Logan International Airport: an electronic signal turns thousands of cell phone users into rabid maniacs. Desperate to get to his estranged wife and son, Clay teams with train driver Tom McCourt (SAMUEL L. JACKSON) to get home before the countryside turns into an apocalyptic war zone. This film, which also stars Stacy Keach, Isabelle Fuhrmann, and Wilbur Fitzgerald, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version. If horror is your cup of tea, then this is a good movie to pick up and sit on until Halloween. Otherwise, keep on moving.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 35%

Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) are on the lookout for a couple of respectable dates for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Only problem is, the women who they pick, Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza), are about as respectable as FIFA. These two raunchy girls plan to out-raunch their dates, and turn Hawaii into their own personal hedonist island. This film, which also stars Stephen Root, Sugar Lyn Beard, and Lavell Crawford, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a very entertaining comedy that’s supposedly inspired by true events, and it’s always fun to see a couple of hard-partiers get out-partied.

Warcraft (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 28%

The peaceful land of Azeroth is on the brink of war. The fearsome orc race is leaving their dying home and looking to place roots in another. As a portal opens between the two worlds, two unlikely heroes find themselves on a collision course that puts the fates of their home, their people, and their families in the crosshairs. This film, which stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, and Ben Foster, is available in a 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Well, this was a movie. It did fantastic in China, but not so well stateside, but that China box office was more than enough. If you’re a fan of the Warcraft games this is based on, then this will be right up your alley.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
