Hey guys! I’ve got a double header review here for you! Max Payne 3: The Complete Series and A1 Annual: The World’s Greatest Comics were sent my way.

Max Payne 3: The Complete Series fills in the gaps in-between the games and gives a more detailed account of his life from rising star at the academy to the booze drinking detective who lost everything. It’s told in flashbacks with pit stops in the present time. It’s gritty, it’s dark, and it’s oh so gruesome. It’s awful watching the fall from grace. But, like the bad train wreck it is, you keep reading. There are parts that get a little confusing between the flashbacks and the main story, but it’s not too bad. Keep in mind that it is a tie-in comic, so don’t expect Frank Miller level of story and artwork.

Now the next item that I read is definitely for the more seasoned comic fan: A1 Annual: The World’s Greatest Comics. We’ve got some of the titans of the comic industry in here like Joe Simon and Jack Kirby with a story and Alan Moore’s in here and even Kevin Eastman has a piece in here. It was a fun read, although some were confusing. Some of them use little if any narrative or dialogue. Still, this is not a bad read at all. In the event you want to take a break from reading; don’t bother. There are pages of latte art. Yes, pictures of artwork done with lattes. I’m not a coffee guy, but I did like the different pictures of the cream and coffee. It was relaxing to say the least. So pick this up to add to your collection, especially if you’re a fan of some of the mentioned authors and artists.
