What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from still basking in the shockwave from the Oscars Sunday to bring you the latest releases coming to home media for February 28, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss trusting your lover, the Sorcerer Supreme, and an Oscar winner. Let’s get to it.
Allied (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 62%
Brad Pitt plays Canadian Intelligence Officer Max Vatan, who finds himself in 1942 North Africa when he stumbles upon French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Marion Cotillard). The two fight alongside each other, fall in love, and marry. But, when Vatan’s superiors tell him that his beloved is a Nazi spy, he has to figure out if everything he’s known about her is a lie. This film, which also stars Lizzy Caplan, Jared Harris, and Matthew Goode, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie was interesting; not entirely interesting, but…it had promise. What was more interesting was the perceived rumors about what happened behind the scenes, but we’re not going to discuss that. This is a perfectly serviceable movie, and it’s good to have on in the background while you wash dishes.
Doctor Strange (PG-13)

Doctor Steven Strange (the Gloriously British Benedict Cumberbatch) is a gifted neurosurgeon who is also a gifted asshole. However, when he loses the use of his hands in a car accident, his medical career and life as he knows it comes to an end. He stumbles upon the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and realizes that the world is a whole lot bigger than he imagined. Along with his friend and trainer Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), they fight to save the world from Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) - a fallen sorcerer who wants to bring forth an even bigger threat. This film, which also stars Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Benjamin Bratt, is available in a three disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. So, let’s quickly address the elephant in the room: the way the Ancient One was written, it could’ve been played by an Asian woman. It didn’t need Tilda Swinton. That aside, this was a very good movie that deserves a seat at the Marvel Studios table.
Moonlight (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 98%
Set in the parts of Miami you don’t see on TV, this tells the story of Chiron (Alex Hibbert/Ashton Sanders/Trevante Rhodes) who, along with best friend Kevin (Jaden Piner/Jharrel Jerome/André Holland), explore who they are, what they are, and what they are to become. Through trials of love, betrayal, and loss, their experiences shape them into the men they were meant to be. This film, which also stars Naomie Harris, Mahershala Ali, and Janelle Monáe, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a very important movie; it’s poignant, it’s heartwarming, and it’s something we all need to watch. I highly recommend it, and it deserved every Academy Award it won, and could’ve stood to win one more.
