What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from bouncing with joy over Star Trek: Discovery to bring you the latest releases to home media for January 30, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss another “comedy” in a never-ending franchise, the birth of a heroine, and the return of the Queen. Let’s get started.
Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween (PG-13)

Madea and the gang are back for yet another Tyler Perry film. Madea (Tyler Perry), Bam (Cassi Davis), and Hattie (Patrice Lovely) go to a haunted campground because reasons, and they have to run for their lives when a litany of monsters come to attack. This film, which also stars Chandra Currelly-Young, Diamond White, and Inanna Sarkis, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. Which one of you asked for this? If you did, please stop.
Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (R)
Metascore: 68
Everyone knows about Diana of Themyscira, aka Wonder Woman, but how did she come to be? This film tells the story of Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston (Luke Evans), the creator of Wonder Woman, and his muses: his wife Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall) and their lover Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote). Together, they held Marston with his studies on human behavior and build a secret life that’s greater than any superhero disguise ever. This film, which also stars JJ Feild, Oliver Platt, and Connie Britton, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is an incredibly fascinating story, and it’s one I can’t recommend highly enough.
Victoria: The Complete Second Season
In the second season of this acclaimed PBS/ITV series, Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) is struggling. She has to manage her role as the monarch of one of the most powerful nations in the world, as well as her duties to her husband Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) and her children. This series, which also stars Peter Bowles Catherine Flemming, and Diana Rigg, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. Historical dramas are hit or miss, but PBS usually does well with them. This show is no exception to the rule; if you’re a fan of Victorian drama or Jenna Coleman, check it out.
