Hey, ProFans! Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from cursing out Mother Nature sixteen ways to Sunday to bring you the new releases in home media for March 18, 2014. In this week’s episode, we talk about a couple of Disney flicks, a trip to the ’70s, and the best show no one really watched. Ready to get to it? Let’s go.
Frozen (PG)

Walt Disney Animation Studios presents a chilly twist on one of the most humorous and heartwarming stories ever told. “Disney Animation’s best since The Lion King,” (William Bibbiani, CraveOnline) will melt your heart. Fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey — teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven — to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom. Bring home Frozen on DVD and Blu-ray - featuring cool bonus extras with gorgeous animation, memorable characters and unforgettable music. It’s dazzling fun for the whole family! This film - an Academy Award winner for Best Original Song - comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is absolutely amazing, and it certainly deserves a spot in your collection. It’s also well-deserving of the pick of the week.
Saving Mr. Banks (PG-13)

Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson bring to life the untold true story about the origins of one of the most treasured Disney classics of all time. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) directs this acclaimed film that reveals the surprising backstory behind the making of Mary Poppins. Determined to fulfill a promise to his daughters, Walt Disney (Hanks) tries for 20 years to obtain the rights to author P. L. Travers’ (Thompson) beloved book. Armed with his iconic creative vision, Walt pulls out all the stops, but the uncompromising Travers won’t budge. Only when he reaches into his own complicated childhood does Walt discover the truth about the ghosts that haunt Travers, and together, they set “Mary Poppins” free. This movie comes in both a single-disc Bluray + Digital Copy version and a single-disc DVD version. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are delightful, everyone is spectacular in their role, and it’s a must-watch for any Disney fan.

American Hustle (R)

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock America, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook), American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life-and-death stakes. This film comes in both a two-disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single-disc DVD + Digital Copy version. This was an entertaining movie to watch, and it was a treat to see these established actors chew every bit of scenery that was set in front of them. Watch this at your earliest convenience.

Anything can happen in Flashpoint, The Final Season, and Team One of the Strategic Response Unit (SRU) is prepared for just that. This high-risk, one-of-a-kind drama follows the exploits of an elite SWAT team that specializes in resolving extreme situations. Armed and dangerous criminals, bomb threats, abduction and gang wars are all in a day’s work for these expert cops. Lead negotiator, Sgt. Greg Parker (Enrico Colantoni), and his trusted team, Ed (Hugh Dillon), Sam (David Paetkau), and Jules (Amy Jo Johnson) face their darkest hour this season. A serial killer is on the run with a victim in tow, a deadly “smart” gun is stolen, and Ed is forced to kill a teenage girl in the line of duty. But it all comes down to the wire when a terrorist starts bombing the city’s most populated buildings. In the epic conclusion to one of television’s most thrilling dramas, the SRU gives it everything they’ve got to save a city plunged into chaos. This series is only available in a six disc DVD version, but it is certainly worth it. This isn’t your average police procedural; this entire series tugs at your heartstrings and won’t let go until the very last scene. It’s a lot of fun, so I recommend watching the entire series from beginning to end.
