What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from recovering from a particularly hard Memorial Day to bring you the latest releases to home media for May 30, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the discovery of self, bad crooks, accidental bullies, and Vikings. Let’s get started.
Before I Fall (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 66%
Samantha Kingston (Zoey Deutch) had it all: perfect boyfriend, perfect friends, and a seemingly perfect future. However, all of that changes when she finds herself living in a Groundhog Day loop. Reliving the same day over and over, she has to figure out who her friends really are and discover how one day can change not only her life, but those around her. This film, which also stars Halston Sage, Kian Lawley, and Cynthy Wu, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. That synopsis reminds me of a line from the great show Quantum Leap: “The lives you’ve touched, touched others. And those lives, others! You’ve done a lot of good…and you can do a lot more.” This movie is Groundhog Day for the YA set; let them have it.
Collide (PG-13)

When a heist goes sideways, Casey Stein (Nicholas Hoult) finds himself on the run from Hagen (Anthony Hopkins) and his gang. Left with no other options, he turns to his former employer, a drug smuggler named Geran (Ben Kingsley) to protect his girlfriend Juliette (Felicity Jones) before Hagen gets his hands on her. This film, which also stars Marwan Kenzari, Nadia Hilker, and Clemans Schick, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is proof positive that even legendary celebrities have to slum it every now and then. I mean…if it’s a lazy Sunday with nothing on TV, I guess you can give this a watch. I wouldn’t recommend searching it out, though.
Fist Fight (R)

On the last day of high school, nebbish English teacher Andy Campbell (Charlie Day) finds himself at odds with history teacher Ron Strickland (Ice Cube) when he inadvertently gets him fired. Strickland challenges Campbell to a fist fight at the end of school, and hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Tracy Morgan, Jillian Bell, and Christina Hendricks, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is silly, but not everything can be so dour and serious. Knock yourselves out.
