DC’s Legends of Tomorrow - S3E9 - Beebo the God of War
Previously on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, “Crisis on Earth-X, Part 4”
When Are We?
1,000 AD/North America
The Mission
A much younger Martin Stein (Graeme McComb) becomes an anachronism when he’s displaced to 1,000 AD North America before Columbus arrives, and just in time for a group of Vikings to take him hostage. In his possession was the hot toy of the moment, Cuddle Me Beebo. The Vikings, led by Leif Erickson (Thor Knai) and his sister Freydis (Katia Winter), conquer North America and follow the giggling blue toy as their god. An anachronism of this magnitude is literally off the charts, and Agent Sharpe (Jes Macallan) offers her assistance.
Side Mission
Rescuing Stein goes easily enough, but when the Legends are caught trying to make off with the Vikings’ deity, a fight breaks out. It’s only when Mick sets the toy aflame, proving it’s not some immortal god, do the Vikings give up their plans to conquer the new land. Unfortunately, Damian Darhk (Neal McDonough) and his daughter Nora (Courtney Ford) arrive and convince the vikings the magic-wielding Darhk is the god Odin.
In the fight against Darhk, Sara is momentarily sent to another dimension where she briefly hears the voice of Malus. She’s yanked back to the real world by Agent Sharpe and Darhk flees with an injured Nora.
Jax wrestles with telling Stein what happens to him in the future, despite the serious implications of changing time. Zari, not the best influence, advises him to come up with a loophole. He does so by giving Stein a letter he’s only to open shortly before he dies in 2017. But Stein is no fool, and even though he’s tempted to read it, he burns the letter without doing so. He convinces Jax to move forward as it’s what Stein wanted (now and in the future).
Mission Report
Sadly, moving forward means Jax leaves the team. This development is understandable, but still sad. It was rumored before Legends of Tomorrow began that it would have a rotating cast, and the changes and additions have worked (for the most part), so I’m confident this is for the best. Things are already looking up as Leo Snart (Wentworth Miller) is still sticking around for a bit, and John Constantine (Matt Ryan) appears aboard the Waverider seeking Sara’s help.
This week made for the second mention that these recent anachronisms have all linked the Legends to either their family members or younger selves. Hopefully they’ll spend some time focusing on why that is when it’s back from hiatus. Also, I really need Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) to join the team since The Flash isn’t utilizing such an awesome character nearly enough.
When the show returns in February it will air on Monday nights.
