Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S2E11 - Aftershocks

Before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. went on hiatus, we were left wondering what Skye and Raina would become after they were blasted with the Obelisk’s mist, who was the mysterious man with no eyes, and how would the team deal with the death of Agent Trip?

This episode focused on change. So much has changed for the agents. Director Coulson is taking bigger risks in his quest to destroy Hydra. They had a close team member, Trip, die, and they finally defeated Daniel Whitehall, the head of Hydra.

For some, change can be good, and for others, it can be bad.

  • Skye is in quarantine due to being exposed to the Obelisk’s mist. Knowing Raina was physically altered from the exposure, the agents are concerned as to what will become of Skye.
  • Simmons was always fascinated with alien technology and powers. After the disaster at the temple of the underground city and Trip’s death, Simmons feels all things alien lead to horrific deaths. She believes Raina and all those exposed to the mist should be eradicated before a contagion spreads.
  • Mack is working on pulling himself together after being brainwashed by alien technology. He feels like he is not in total control of himself. Fitz lends an ear. Mack was there for Fitz when he was recovering from his brain injury. It appears these two have swapped roles.

Coulson strikes a deal with General Talbot: If S.H.I.E.L.D. turns over Sunil Bakshi, a Hydra agent in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s custody, to Talbot, Talbot will in turn help S.H.I.E.L.D. capture the remaining Hydra agents. On their way to deliver their prisoner, May and Coulson are t-boned by a white dump truck. A group of men dressed in black jump out and start shooting. May and Coulson take cover to defend themselves. May is shot and killed.

“They won’t take us alive,” screams Coulson as he is fatally shot.

A surviving member of the men in black takes Bakshi. Bakshi asks him whom he works for since Whitehall is dead. The man pulls off his mask to reveal his face: it’s Hunter. He says he works for Bakshi now. After Hunter and Bakshi drive off, everyone in the shootout begins to get up. Coulson’s plan worked.

It was refreshing to see the agents bring down their walls, express their true emotions, and show how each one handled Trip’s death differently. I am still left with so many unanswered questions. Where did the man with no eyes teleport Raina? Where’s Ward? Why are Bobbi and Mack looking for Nick Fury’s toolbox?

About Heather Whitfield (24 Articles)
Thanks to her parents, Heather grew up loving comics and science fiction movies. Some of Heather’s favorite activities are watching TV and movies, listening to music, ballroom dancing, reading, and meeting intriguing people. Heather’s future goals are to have the largest collection of Funko Pop Bobblehead’s in the Guinness Book of World Records, become a professional ballroom dancer, and convince Rob Thomas to cast her as a very much older version of Veronica Mars.
