Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S2E15 - One Door Closes

Previously on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., ‘Love in the Time of HYDRA’

Flashback to the day Hydra took down S.H.I.E.L.D. Mack, along with other S.H.I.E.L.D. engineers, are held hostage by a group of Hydra agents. The Hydra agent in charge demands the ship’s schematics. Bobbi enters with guns blazing. She takes out several Hydra agents. The Hydra agent in charge takes an engineer and aims a gun to her head. He says,“Weapons down.” Suddenly, the Hydra agent is hit in the back with a large blade thrown by none other than Agent Hartley (special guest, Lucy Lawless). Mack asks, “What’s the plan and what are you even doing here?” Hartley and Bobbi inform Mack the plan is to save S.H.I.E.L.D.

Mack, Bobbi, Hartley, and a couple of other agents head toward the ship’s conference room. They find Gonzales holding a gun in one hand and using a table as a shield. His leg is severely injured. Bobbi convinces Gonzales they are not Hydra agents. She identifies herself. Bobbi tells him they are there under Fury’s orders and spouts off some protocol number. Gonzales lets his guard down. Bobbi informs him that their mission is to get him off the ship. They get Gonzales ready to move. Bobbi has to put a chip in the server core so the ship will sink. Gonzales says there is something on the ship Hydra cannot get. Gonzales and the others will help.

Making their way to the mainframe, Gonzales, Mack, and Bobbi find out another level is controlled by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Mack insists they should retake their ship instead of blowing it up. Bobbi agrees, breaks the chip, and readies her gun for the fight.

Flash forward to the present day. Bobbi comes wheeling in to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters on her motorcycle. She takes a knife and begins to cut some wires to the airplane a.k.a. The Bus.

Coulson allows Mack to take a look under Lola’s hood. Get your mind out of the gutter. Bobbi walks up inquiring about the missing Hunter. Coulson hasn’t located him yet, but he has his feelers out. Bobbi walks out and heads to the computer room. She inserts an object into the mainframe. Coulson brags to Mack on the great job of creating a perfect replica of Lola. The only problem is that Coulson discovered a component on the replica that he’s not quite sure what it does. What was Mack thinking? This is Coulson we are talking about. Knowing his cover has been blown, Mack tries to make excuses, but Coulson informs him that Fitz is examining the component. Coulson asks Mack who he works for, and Mack replies I work for S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson accuses Mack of working with Hydra. Then, Coulson realizes that Mack is not working alone and yells get May on the line. Now.

“The last person who betrayed me… I broke his larynx.” - May

Bobbi is in Coulson’s office using a laser to cut through his desk to retrieve Fury’s tool box. May enters and Bobbi tries to convince her that Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. is not the real S.H.I.E.L.D. With Fury’s tool box in hand, Bobbi does a back-flip into the air and through a window to try to escape from May. Good luck with that. A kick-ass fight ensues between the two women. May and Bobbi go hand to hand until May pulls a gun on her. Bobbi responds, “I didn’t want this,” and taps her chest. The lights go out and the backup lights immediately come on. Bobbi’s gone. At the same time, Mack pulls his own disappearing trick and escapes from Coulson.

May and Fitz meet up with Coulson to discuss what has transpired. Fitz explained that Mack put a scanner in Lola’s replica that would pick up anything with vibranium. That’s how Bobbi located Fury’s tool box.

Bobbi contacts Gonzalez and Calderon. She informs them that she has Fury’s toolbox. At her locker Simmons slides a gun in the back of her pants just when Bobbi arrives. Simmons is glad to see Bobbi. As Simmons is digging through her bag looking for something, she begins a non-stop chatter of technical jargon that Bobbi is not interested in. Bobbi tries to convince Simmons to drop it and go with her to find Coulson. Simmons hands Bobbi several small cylinders to hold. When the cylinders touch, they knock Bobbi out. Simmons reports to Coulson and May that she’s got Bobbi.

May snoops in Bobbi’s locker and finds a gas mask. She realizes Bobbi and Mack are not trying to leave. They are trying to keep Coulson and his people there.

Searching the mainframe, Fitz finds the device that knocked out the lights. Mack enters telling Fitz not to do it and warns him to get away from the wall. A gas begins to come through the vents. Mack knocks Fitz to the floor as the wall explodes toward them. Gonzales and his group enter through the hole wall. They have taken over Coulson’s people except for Skye. She is missing. Agent Weaver, an instructor from the academy, says that Coulson has no right to call this S.H.I.E.L.D. and asks Simmons to check on an injured Mack.

Coulson is brought to Gonzales. Gonzales presents Fury’s toolbox and asks Coulson to show him how to open it. Don’t do it! Gonzales continues to lay out reasons Coulson is not S.H.I.E.L.D. Using icers, May shoots Gonzales and the guards knocking them out and releases Coulson.

Coulson meets Hunter at a Tiki bar on a beach. Hunter finally accepts the position Coulson had previously offered. Hunter asks, “What’s the plan, boss?”

“If Coulson put her at the retreat, he thinks she’s (Skye) dangerous too.” — Gonzales

Skye, still at the safe house, is chatting with Simmons via webcam. Simmons encourages Skye to try on the gloves that she made. Simmons reassures Skye that she wants her to be safe.

After their conversation has ended, Fitz walks in and asks how Simmons’ science experiment going. They address each other by their first names. That is not a good sign.

Skye tries on the gloves that Simmons made. They light up for a moment and make her feel woozy. She tries to contact Simmons with no luck. Skye follows the internet cables to the wall to see if the cables are connected. She discovers the panelling is loose. Behind a wall panel is a metal-looking wall with a huge punch mark. A mark possibly made by a huge, green man?

Skye hears a noise and goes to the door. She sees no one. Then, she shuts the door and walks off, only to hear a knock at the door. She opens the door and it’s Gordon, the man with no eyes. Gordon explains that he is like Skye. He had a mentor helping him when he went through the transformation. Although he was horrified at his change, his mentor embraced him. He asks Skye what S.H.I.E.L.D. did after she changed. Skye tells Gordon she feels like thousands of bees inside her all the time and that Simmons made her gloves to keep her from hurting herself. Gordon thinks it might be because they don’t want her to hurt others. He offers her an opportunity to join him and the others, so she can learn about herself and her powers. He leaves.

Skye takes off the gloves and washes her hands. The water looks like a spiral as it comes out of the faucet. May contacts Skye warning her to get out. When the power goes out, their call is interrupted.

Outside Skye sees aircrafts searching for her. Defending herself, Skye sends out what appears to be a shockwave knocking down trees, Bobbi, and Calderon. When Skye sees the results, she whispers, “Gordon help.” He appears out of an electrical portal and asks if she wants to go “home.” She nods and they disappear back into the portal.

Score | 8/10Things I liked about this episode:
  • Fitz and Simmons held hands when they were being held. Maybe their relationship is on the mend.
  • The action-packed fight between May and Bobbi.
  • We finally get to see Skye utilize some of her powers.
  • The special effects.
Unanswered questions:
  • Is Gonzales and his crew trustworthy?
  • I wonder what Gordon considers home where he took Skye?
  • Did Coulson and Hunter already have a backup plan?
