IN THE DOSSIER

After Mr. Bauer dies, S.H.I.E.L.D has no choice but to go to Eli Morrow for information. Unfortunately, Lucy’s inability to maintain the Darkhold sends her to the prison as well. Jemma stresses over her lie detector test, worried that keeping the secret of Aida will get her fired, but she ends up gaining a bargaining chip that saves her job.

PRISON BLUES

The plan to use their S.H.I.E.L.D. credentials to transport Eli Morrow for questioning goes sideways when Lucy arrives and puts magical mojo on the prison staff. This turns them against Coulson and May, leaving them barricaded in an office.

Mack and Daisy lead Robbie and a few field agents into the prison to rescue them and obtain Eli. Once they have half of what they came for, they’re trapped in a cellblock with inmates recruited by the Watchdogs. Remotely, Fitz has to open all the doors in that cellblock in order to save them. In case you’re not keeping track, that’s now S.H.I.E.L.D agents, ghouls, and homicidal inmates roaming the prison.

In order to help Coulson and May get ahead, Daisy locks herself in the cafeteria with a few of the Watchdog inmates. Since she can’t use her power without the possibility of breaking her bones, Daisy goes old school and lays down a beautiful ass-whooping without setting off a single quake. Still, she’s eventually overtaken, and gets saved by May and Coulson, who came back for her. See, Daisy? People need people!

Meanwhile, Mack and Robbie reach Eli, who is hesitant to leave with S.H.I.E.L.D and get his nephew further involved, but when he hears Lucy can walk through walls he’s more than willing to bounce. Unable to resist the urge for vengeance, Robbie tells his uncle to go ahead to the extraction point while he visits the cell of the gang member responsible for his brother’s shooting. He learns that the shooting was a hit, but the gang member doesn’t know who ordered it. Robbie then flames on and it was glorious. Suddenly, all the inmates were more than willing to mosey back into their cells.

One problem, though: Lucy has Eli now.

Oh, another problem: Nadeer has photos of the prison operation, including Robbie all aflame and killing the inmate. Mace is willing to deal to keep her quiet.

MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN

As expected, Jemma is more than a little annoyed that Fitz kept Aida from her. Possibly failing her upcoming polygraph is weighing on her too, but she’s still plenty miffed about the secret keeping. Her test is interrupted when Director Mace requires her assistance in a battle for hearts and minds: a televised debate with Senator Nadeer. She’ll feed him the proper responses Cyrano-style.

Nadeer does her best to paint all Inhumans as dangerous, using rhetoric you would hear at any Trump rally. When she challenges whether or not Mace is the right man for the job, he outs himself as Inhuman on live television.

Mace’s approval numbers soar, and he’s grateful for Jemma’s assistance, but she still needs to take that test. Not so fast, Mace. Jemma implies she noticed a tell when he talked about his heroic act in Vienna, and she just might have to talk about that when she’s hooked up to the polygraph. Jemma is now exempt for all polygraphs.

This dude is blackmailed two times in one episode!

QUICK HITS

  • May doesn’t want to talk about her death experience except to say it “wasn’t like a trip to Tahiti.”
  • With this added mystery of who’s behind the drive-by, that means more Robbie and I’m so here for that.
  • What is Nadeer going to ask for in exchange for her silence?
  • Daisy’s back onboard… for now.
