What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from enjoying a little bit of time with no rain to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 21, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss the end of the trilogy no one saw coming in the first place, a cute little ditty about dealing with the specter of your lover’s ex, an incredibly descriptive title for a film, getting down and dirty with Salma Hayek, all for one and one for all, and a show where the Doctor works with Dumbledore and Dr. Erskine. We have a lot to get to this week, so with no further ado, let’s get started.
Taken 3 (PG-13)

Liam Neeson’s particular set of skills are getting a bit rusty. Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Brian Mills, who is on the run from the CIA, the FBI, and the police after his ex-wife is killed and he is framed for the murder. He also seeks out to find the real killer and protect his daughter - the only family he has left. This film, which also stars Forest Whitaker, Maggie Grace, and Dougray Scott, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. The first Taken was a phenomenon that no one saw coming, and it helped to usher in the recent trend of middle age action stars. Taken 2 expounded on that, but it began to start showing its age. This one? This one needs to go to Shady Pines and have a seat. I’m glad this franchise is over; otherwise, I assume the next movie would be him in a wheelchair taking on the tapioca pudding mafia. I’ll see myself out now.

Jennifer Aniston stars as Claire Bennett, a dark and troubled woman who is in a relationship with a widower named Roy (Sam Worthington). Problem is, his dead wife Nina (Anna Kendrick) was a member of the chronic pain support group Claire was a member of. Claire is haunted by hallucinations of Nina, she’s addicted to painkillers, and she just wants to redeem herself and build herself a better life. Along with her caretaker Silvana (Adriana Barraza), she begins her journey on the long road to redemption. This film, which also stars Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. It’s weird to see Jennifer Aniston in a serious role, but it’s also very refreshing. As such, this film is my pick of the week.
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (R)

When you think of horror movies, the last country you probably think of is Iran. But, here we are, a film considered the first “Iranian Vampire Western” ever. In an Iranian ghost town called “Bad City” (first sign of trouble there), the people are unaware that they are being hunted by a lonely vampire. This film, which stars Sheila Vand, Mozhan Marno, and Arash Marandi, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. I honestly don’t have any quips to make about this movie, because I haven’t heard about this movie until today. So, if you wanna watch it and report back, feel free.

Salma Hayek stars as Everly, a woman serving time as a prostitute who has to face down a multitude of assassins sent by her ex-lover…who happens to be a member of the Yakuza. She fends off these multiple assassins with only one goal in mind: to get home to her mother and daughter. This film, which also stars Hiroyuki Watanabe, Laura Cepeda, and Gabriella Wright, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is awash in brutality and gratuitousness, but it’s a fascinating romp to watch.
The Musketeers: The Complete Second Season
In the second season of the BBC series, the Musketeers are sent out to retrieve Cardinal Richelieu’s man the Comte de Rochefort from Madrid. The Musketeers and Rochefort have to join forces to save General De Foix, the mastermind behind France’s military strategy against Spain. Will they succeed? Or will this enemy mine tear them all apart? This series, which stars Tom Burke, Santiago Cabrera, Howard Charles, Luke Pasqualino, and Marc Warren, is available in both a three disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. This season is just as good as the one before it, so I recommend giving it a go.
Fortitude: Season One
When a murder takes a small Arctic town by surprise and threatens its very existence, it is up to Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) and Detective Morton Cadzow (Stanley Tucci) to solve the crime before more dark secrets are discovered. This series, which also stars Christopher Eccleston, Michael Gambon, and Sofie Gråbøl, is available in both a four disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This is a chilling series with an ending that needs to be seen to be believed.
