What’s going on ProFans? I’m taking a break from doing some much needed tech repairs at work to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 25, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss this newfangled jazz music the kids are talking about, an unconventional zombie movie, and fights in tight patent leather. Let’s get to it.

La La Land (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 93%

Los Angeles is known for crushing the hopes and dreams of many a person, but Mia (Emma Stone) gives it a shot anyway. She meets Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) a dedicated jazz musician who - like Mia - is struggling to make ends meet. But, if these two crazy kids can make it in the City of Angels, then anyone can. This film, which also stars John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, and J.K. Simmons, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I love jazz; I grew up on it, and I think it’s safe to say it flows through me. I didn’t need a movie like this, but some of you might. It’s a beautifully shot film, to say the least.

The Girl with All the Gifts (R)

In the near future, earth has fallen. Decimated by a fungal disease that turns all infected into “hungries” that lose all free will, only a few children are are immune to its effects. The children are shepherded to a small base in rural England, where they’re studied and tested upon. Most of the kids are fine, but Melanie (Sennia Manua) is special; out of all of the kids, she’s the most human and humane. When the base falls, Melanie, along with her favorite teacher Miss Justineau (Gemma Arterton), base superintendent Sgt. Eddie Parks (Paddy Considine), and Dr. Catherine Caldwell (Glenn Close), they have to make a run for it while Melanie has to face some very difficult decisions about herself and the human race as a whole. This film, which also stars Anamaria Marcina, Fisayo Akinade, and Dominique Tipper, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Y’all have fun with this. I’m good; really, I am.

Underworld: Blood Wars (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 17%

Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is back, and she means business. After fending off attacks from both the Lycan and Vampire clans that abandoned her, she finds herself relying on only two allies. Alongside David (Theo James) and David’s father Thomas (Charles Dance), they have to work to bring peace to the Lycan and Vampire clans, even if she has to make the ultimate sacrifice. This film, which also stars Tobias Menzies, Laura Pulver, and James Faulkner, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. If you’ve been onboard since day one of this franchise, why stop now? Enjoy.
