What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from swimming because of all the rain I’m getting to bring you the latest releases to home media for April 5, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss a galaxy far, far away, ex-cons doing ex-con things, and The Doctor. There’s not a lot of there there, but there’s still enough to go around. So, let’s get to it.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (PG-13)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…we were introduced to Star Wars. And now, it’s back. 30 years after the fall of the Galactic Empire, we see what happens in a power vacuum. The Republic gave birth to the imperialistic First Order, and it’s face, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Going against them is Stormtrooper defector Finn (John Boyega), and Rey (Daisy Ridley), a scavenger who comes into possession of a droid with an important secret. The two run into Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and they join Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and the Resistance to try to find Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last Jedi Knight. This film, which also stars Carrie Fisher, Domhnall Gleeson, and Gwendolyn Christie, is available in a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy Target exclusive, and a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy Wal-Mart exclusive. Everyone has already seen this movie multiple times, and everyone has counted down the days until it’s released to home media. Well, that day has come, it is glorious, and it is my pick of the week.
Banshee: The Complete Third Season
Lucas Hood (Antony Starr) is still on the run from his past in the third season of this Cinemax series. Still attempting to reunite with his former lover Anastasia - who now goes by Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic), while avoiding the watching eyes of Banshee’s District Attorney - and Carrie’s husband - Gordon (Rus Blackwell). This series, which also stars Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, and Hoon Lee, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a four disc DVD version. The best way to describe this series would be to call it Game of Thrones set in modern times, with a dash of Mad Men thrown in for good measure. If either of those appeal to you, then this is the show for you.
Doctor Who: The Complete Ninth Series
The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) are back, and all of space and time is on their tail. The Doctor has a secret that he is willing to protect with his very lives, Clara is living dangerously, and the series comes to a head in ways you’ll never see coming. This series, which also stars Maisie Williams, Michelle Gomez, and Jemma Redgrave, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This series has been hotly debated from both sides of the aisle, with people either loving it or hating it. I found it to be entertaining fro beginning to end, and I highly recommend it for either your friendly Whovians or sci-fi fans in general.
