BluTuesday - August 19, 2014

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from reading about Business Law (*yawn*) to bring you the latest in home media for August 19, 2014. In this week’s episode, we discuss everyone’s favorite webslinger… and a metric ton of TV! So, let’s settle in and get this show started, shall we?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 53%

Look out, here comes the Spider-Man! Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Sally Field reprise their roles as Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and Aunt May, respectively, in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. Peter is facing new threats in the form of Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx), maintaining his tenuous relationship with Gwen (while trying to keep his promise to her late father George, played by Denis Leary), dealing with the mystery of his parents’ deaths, and facing a blast from his past. The movie is available in a three-disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a three-disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single-disc DVD version. This movie is intense, fun, and my pick of the week.

In addition to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we have a lot of TV shows that are being released to home media this week. Here are the ones we recommend you check out:

Boardwalk Empire: Season 4

The fourth season of this hit HBO series starring Steve Buscemi as 1920s Atlantic City crime czar Enoch “Nucky” Thompson picks up mere months after the end of the series’ third season and continues the show’s exploration of organized crime during the prohibition era. It’s available in either a four-disc Blu-ray set or a four-disc DVD set.

The Good Wife: Season 5

Julianna Margulies stars as the titular character of this veteran CBS drama series, now heading into its sixth season. Catch up on the political lives of Margulies’  “Good Wife”, alongside co-stars Josh Charles and Matt Czuchry, as they tackle some of the most talked about television of this past year. This is available in a 6-disc DVD set.

NCIS: Season 11

Speaking of veteran CBC drama series, NCIS is set to begin its 12th season next month, and the Mark Harmon-starring naval crime drama shows no signs of slowing down. This season is available in a 6-disc DVD set.

NCIS: Los Angeles: Season 5

NCIS‘ spin-off series starring LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell, NCIS: Los Angeles, may only have half the experience under its belt as its predecessor, but it is also going just as strong as ever, with its 6th season set to premiere next month. This season is also available in a 6-disc DVD set.

Once Upon A Time: Season 3

Boasting a cast of popular fictional characters like Peter Pan, Captain Hook, the Evil Queen, and The Wicked Witch of the West (among a metric ton of others), it’s no wonder ABC’s fairytale drama series has been such a hit with audiences. This season, which we recapped here on Project Fandom, is available in a 5-disc Blu-ray set or a 5-disc DVD set.

Parenthood: Season 5

NBC’s highly underrated family drama about the Braverman clan is coming to an end, following a sixth and final season, but you still have time to catch up on all the ups and downs they experienced this season before inevitably crying your eyes out (it’s a given with Parenthood) when it all comes to an end. This season is available in a 5-disc DVD set.

Parks & Recreation: Season 6

The hilarious Amy Poehler-starring NBC series Parks & Recreation, which gave us the iconic character of Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson and-for many-was the birthplace of our love for Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Chris Pratt, is winding down next year after its seventh and final season, but few would argue against the opinion that the series has remained hysterical throughout the entirety of its long run. The sixth season, of course, if no exception and is available in a 3-disc DVD set.

Revolution: Season 2

This post-apocalyptic NBC series may have been cancelled after just its second season, but it maintained quality special effects, excellent stunt work, and a hardcore group of fans for its full, short-lived run. This season season is available in a in a 9-disc Blu-ray set and a 5-disc DVD set.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss anything you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
