What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from my final preparations for school starting to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 2, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss one of the most controversial comics of all time becoming one of the most controversial animated movies of all time, rescuing kittehs, the mystery of the list, and an experience you won’t want to miss. No time to waste here, so let’s dive right in.
Batman: The Killing Joke (R)

After once again escaping from Arkham Asylum, the Joker (Mark Hamill) sets out to prove that one bad day can make anyone insane, and he sets his sights on Commissioner Gordon (Ray Wise) to prove it. It’s up to Batman (Kevin Conroy) to put an end to this madness and save his allies in the process. This film, which also stars Tara Strong, John DiMaggio, and Nolan North, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version with a statuette of the Joker, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. I like Batman; I really do. When I read the books, it’s not Ben Affleck or Christian Bale’s voice I hear; it’s Kevin Conroy’s. Batman: The Killing Joke is a controversial comic for what they did to Barbara Gordon, and what they did in this movie is worse. If you’ve already seen it and like it, that’s fine, but I won’t be watching. Not even if it were free.

Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key) and Rell (Jordan Peele) are two milquetoast guys in the city who find themselves in a bit of a jam. When Rell’s kitten is kidnapped (catnapped?), they have to pose as hardened killers in order to get the feline back. Of course, this doesn’t go well, and hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, and Darrell Britt-Gibson, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. The premise of this movie is ridiculous, the kittens are too adorable for words, and I highly recommend this for anyone who loves to laugh. Key & Peele bring their talents to the big screen, and we’re all better for it.
The Blacklist: The Complete Third Season
How the mighty have fallen. FBI agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone) finds herself on the other side of the law, as she is now a fugitive on the run alongside criminal mastermind Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader). Fellow agent Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) is forced to lead a task force to bring Liz and Red in, and the new dynamic duo have to use an unsavory list of Red’s confidants in order to stay one step ahead of the pack and finally get some answers. This series, which also stars Ryan Eggold, Amir Arison, and Harry Lennix, is available in a five disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a five disc DVD version. This show continues to present more questions than answers given, but it’s still worth the ride.
The Girlfriend Experience: Season One
Christine Reade (Riley Keough) is juggling two lives: she’s a second year student at the Chicago-Burnham Law School as well as an intern for the Kirkland & Allen law firm. However, her friend Avery (Kate Lyn Sheil) introduces Christine to the world of escorts, specializing in the girlfriend experience. Christine immediately takes to this new world, and just as quickly finding herself having to juggle this third aspect of her life while finding out that not all secrets stay hidden. This series, which also stars Paul Sparks, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Alexandra Castillo, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. This show is so good; it gives you a look behind the curtain at what is a very risky and dangerous profession, it humanizes both the clients and the professionals while at the same time not holding back on what these women actually do. Give it a watch.
