BluTuesday - August 22, 2017

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from recuperating from a hectic first day of school to bring you the latest releases to home media for August 22, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss a ragtag bunch of a-holes, a B-movie legend, the devil’s details, an optimistic superhero, and zombies. Let’s get to it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 82%
Metascore: 67

Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel) are back to save the galaxy one more time. Secrets are revealed, new threats rear their ugly heads, and their bonds are tested in a way they’ve never had to face before. This film, which also stars Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Kurt Russell, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Guardians of the Galaxy was the surprise hit of the summer when it came out, and its sequel had a lot to live up to. Instead of giving us the same ol’ same ol’, it gave us a different twist and activated all the feels. This is highly recommended.

Ash vs. Evil Dead: The Complete Second Season
Metascore: 82

Ash (Bruce Campbell) has returned, and the proverbial crap is about to hit the fan. He’s left Jacksonville to return to Elk Grove to get away from his troubles. However, when he runs into Ruby (Lucy Lawless), the two enemies need to become frenemies and save the world from the evil that’s brewing underneath Elk Grove. This series, which also stars Michelle Hurd, Ray Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD version and a two disc DVD version. Bruce Campbell is a national treasure, Lucy Lawless is fantastic, and the rest of the cast sparkles in this twisted horror comedy. Give it a watch; it’s groovy, baby!

Lucifer: The Complete Second Season
Metascore: N/A

Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) and LAPD Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) are reunited and solving murders while getting closer to each other. But everything isn’t grand in the City of Angels: Lucifer’s mother Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) has escaped the fiery pits and is raising hell…pun intended. Lucifer now has to team up with his estranged angel brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside) to put their darling mother back where she belongs. This series, which also stars Rachael Harris, Kevin Alejandro, and Lesley-Ann Brandt, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a four-disc DVD version. This is a fun show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and in this day and age, that’s all we can ask for from our entertainment. Check it out.

Supergirl: The Complete Second Season
Metascore: 81

Supergirl, aka Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) is back and better than ever. Having left the safety of CatCo behind, she’s dividing her time between writing well enough to please her editor Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez), her budding friendship with Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath), and working for J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) and with her sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) at the DEO and her cousin Clark Kent, aka Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). She also clashes with Daxamite royalty Mon-El (Chris Wood), which blossoms into something more. But, with the looming threats of both CADMUS and other intergalactic threats, will the Woman of Steel be strong enough to take this all on? This series, which also stars Mechad Brooks, Jeremy Jordan, and Calista Flockhart, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. Whereas this show did have its pacing issues, it was still a fun show to watch, and I do recommend it.

The Walking Dead: The Complete Seventh Season
Metascore: N/A

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is here, and he’s ready to show Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his ragtag bunch of misfits who’s boss. Rick wants to reason with their tyrannical leader, but when all attempts at reason fail, he’s forced to look to the Hilltop and the Kingdom to help them when this turns to all-out war. This series, which also stars Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohen, and Danai Gurira, is available in a five-disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a five disc DVD version. You like this show; you watch this show. Nothing I can say would sway you in either direction. So, enjoy.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
