What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from bouncing between Horizon Zero Dawn and the last week of relevance for Destiny to bring you the latest titles coming to home media for August 29, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss The Dark Knight and his kooky new partner, The Rock, Pirates, the most corrupt city in comics, and more tales from that galaxy far, far away. Let’s get to it.
Batman and Harley Quinn (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: N/A
Metascore: N/A
The Dark Knight returns in this animated film, and he’s got company. Alongside former Robin turned Nightwing Dick Grayson (Loren Lester) and the criminally insane Harley Quinn (Melissa Rauch), Batman (Kevin Conroy) has to defeat Poison Ivy (Paget Brewster) and the Floronic Man (Kevin Michael Richardson) before they unleash a toxin that will save every plant on earth – at the expense of every person on earth. This film, which also stars John DiMaggio, Robin Atkin Downes, and Bruce Timm, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. There are two statements you can make and be absolutely accurate in: DC’s live action films are miss or hit and DC’s animated films are usually stellar. This film, while it has its mishaps, is a stellar addition to DC’s animated canon.
Baywatch: Extended Cut (NR)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 19%
Metascore: 37
The beautiful beaches of Emerald Bay are under siege. Lt. Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and his crew of lifeguards won’t stand for that. Alongside former Olympian Ryan Loc – I mean, Matt Brody (Zac Efron), they go undercover to take down ruthless businesswoman Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) before her machinations destroys the surf they call home. This film, which also stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Hannibal Buress, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Well, they’ll turn everything into a movie nowadays. But, if you don’t take this film seriously, I think you’ll be fine. Just enjoy the sights.
Black Sails: The Complete Fourth Season
The West Indies is at war, and New Providence Island is catching the brunt of it. Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) and Woodes Rogers (Luke Roberts) have Nassau under control, Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) is looking for strike the final blow, and the legend of Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) has fueled an insurgency. This season, which also stars Jessica Parker Kennedy, Clara Paget, and Ray Stevenson, is available in a three disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a three disc DVD version. This has been a consistently entertaining show, and as it sets sail for the last time, give it a watch and complete your collection.
Gotham: The Complete Third Season
Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) is going outside the law in the third season of this Fox retelling of DC’s most dangerous city. Gordon becomes a bounty hunter in order to catch Hugo Strange (BD Wong) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) and Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chicklis) are handling the frotlines, and the criminals are beginning to run the asylum. This series, which also stars David Mazouz, Sean Pertwee, and Camren Bicondova, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a six disc DVD version. Look…this show is weird. It’s not your grandfather’s Gotham, your father’s Gotham, or even your next-door neighbor’s Gotham; it’s a whole new type of Gotham that’s just plain old bizarre. If you’ve been watching from the jump, then God bless you and keep watching.
Star Wars Rebels: The Complete Season Three
In the third season of this critically acclaimed show, the Rebels are on the move. As Ezra (Taylor Gray) and the crew of the Ghost strengthen the Rebel fleet, the Imperial forces are coming back with a vengeance under the leadership of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). The Rebels’ new mission: a direct assault on the Empire. With tie-ins to The Clone Wars, Rogue One, and the original trilogy, this is a season that can’t be missed. This series, which also stars Freddie Prinze, Jr., Tiya Sircar, and James Earl Jones, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This has been a consistently great TV series, and I highly recommend checking it out…especially if you’re a Star Wars fan.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.
Until next time…
