Ho, ho, ho, everybody! Joseph here, and I’m bringing you what’s new in Blu for December 11, 2012. This week’s episode features high spies, a bunch of lost animals, freaky teddy bears, and…well…freaky girls. Ready? Let’s grab some eggnog and get to it.
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 56%
The Bourne Legacy pulls back the curtain on a government secret even darker than Jason Bourne. When Bourne exposes Operation Treadstone at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum, he sparks a bonfire that threatens to burn down decades of research and development into the building of better spies and warriors. In The Bourne Legacy, audiences discover that there are actually a variety of covert intelligence programs – all of which now feel the threat of exposure. On the verge of having their conspiracy revealed, members of the government’s intelligence community will stop at nothing to erase all evidence of their top secret programs. With his life in jeopardy, agent Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) must use his genetically-engineered skills to survive the ultimate game of cat-and-mouse and finish what Jason Bourne started. This movie comes in two different varieties: a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. The movie didn’t do too well, but if you like action movies – and Rachel Weisz, then this is the movie for you.
Ice Age: Continental Drift (PG)

History’s greatest heroes return for the most outrageously funny and entertaining Ice Age adventure in two million years. When Scrat’s acorn antics cause a cataclysmic crack-up, Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) go where no herd has gone before - on a high-seas quest aboard a floating iceberg. But, a menagerie of misfit pirates are determined to shiver their timbers and capsize their journey home. Join a boat-load of lovable new characters (voiced by Jennifer Lopez, Aziz Ansari and Peter Dinklage) for original songs, spectacular animation and heartwarming family fun. This movie comes in three flavors: a three disc 3D Bluray/2D Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. The kids will like this, so pick it up for them and let them have a little fun with it.
Ted (NR) – NOTE: The theatrical release was rated R

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brings his boundary-pushing brand of humor to the big screen for the first time as writer, director and voice star of Ted. In the live action/CG-animated comedy, he tells the story of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who must deal with the cherished teddy bear who came to life as the result of a childhood wish…and has refused to leave his side ever since. First of all, let me just say that the Rotten Tomatoes rating is apropos for this movie. Now that I have that out of the way…this movie comes in two different flavors: a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie is raunchy and uproariously funny, plus it has the lovely Mila Kunis in it (so, it has that going for it, which is nice), and I think this a lot of fun to just kick back with the recreational consumption of your choice – perhaps a Manhattan – and enjoy yourself.
Girls: The Complete First Season (NR)
From writer/director/actor Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) and comedy veteran Judd Apatow (producer, Bridesmaids) this scripted half-hour series focuses on a group of 20-something women in New York and their adventures in post-collegiate floundering. Over the course of Season 1’s ten episodes, the four girls try to figure out what they want – from life, from boys, from themselves and each other. The answers aren’t always clear or easy, but the search is profoundly relatable and infinitely amusing. The series comes in two flavors: a three disc Bluray version and a two disc DVD version. This is an unflinching look at what it’s like to be a girl growing up on her own, and this is my pick of the week.
