What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from wondering where the winter weather is to bring you the latest releases to home media for December 15, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss the most volatile secret organization ever, kids getting lost, vulgar teddy bears, flaming off, and Marco. We’ve got a lot to get to, so let’s just jump right in.
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (PG-13)

After their latest mission goes horribly wrong, the Impossible Mission Force is disbanded. But, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) knows that there is a dangerous organization out there trying to put wrong what the IMF put right: The Syndicate. Ethan’s mission, because he really doesn’t have a choice but to accept it, is to find out who’s behind the Syndicate and - along with the help of the mysterious Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) - bring the organization to justice. This film, which also stars Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie was so much fun, and it kept me guessing - even though the IMF seems to always be fighting for its life. This movie is my pick of the week, and I highly recommend it.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (PG-13)

Good news! Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the rest of the Gladers got out of the dreaded maze! Bad news? Their search for answers about the dreaded organization WCKD take them to the Scorch, a barren landscape filled with unimaginable horrors. They join forces with resistance fighters, and they uncover a mystery that signifies bad tidings of discomfort and sorrow. This film, which also stars Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Jacob Lofland, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. If you’ve seen the first movie, you know what you’re getting into with this. If you haven’t seen the first movie, please do before jumping into this one; you’ll be lost otherwise. The first two movies make for a great double feature over the Christmas holidays. Just: make sure you have plenty of eggnog handy.
Ted 2 (R)

Ted (Seth McFarlane) and John (Mark Wahlberg) are back, and this time, they’re bringing company. Ted has married Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), and they’re looking to have children. But, Ted can’t have children because he’s a stuffed bear, and attempts to get her fertilized go awry. On top of that, Ted has to prove that he is indeed a person instead of a stuffed bear in the eyes of the law. Ridiculousness ensues from there. This film, which also stars Amanda Seyfried, Morgan Freeman, and Dennis Haysbert, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. If raunchy comedies are your thing, then this is for you. If not, then pass on this like Tom Brady passing a stuffed bear through a window.
Fantastic Four (PG-13)

Loosely based on the Ultimate version of the Marvel Comics by the same name, the Fantastic Four makes its return to cinemas. Reed Richards (Miles Teller) is a genius kid who has discovered an alternate universe. Along with Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan), his adopted sister Sue (Kate Mara), and his best friend Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell), they travel to this universe and become something…fantastic. They then use their powers to take on an evil force only known as Doom. This film, which also stars Reg E. Cathey, Toby Kebbell, and Tim Blake Nelson, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I had such high hopes for this movie, and they were dashed utterly after watching it. I’m almost certain there was a good movie in there somewhere, but we’ll never get to see it. I got nothin’…sorry.
Marco Polo: Season 1
Lorenzo Richelmy stars as the eponymous explorer who finds himself in the court of Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) and has to navigate unfamiliar waters of betrayal, greed, and intrigue as Khan tries to become Emperor of the World. This series, which also stars Remy Hill, Olivia Cheng, and Joan Chen, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This Netflix original was a blast to watch, and it’ll be just as great on Blu-ray. Give it a watch.
