What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from decking my hall with boughs of holly to bring you the latest releases to home media for December 5, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss natural born killers, little Twinkies with clothes, and a return to the mind of David Lynch. Let’s get to it.
American Assassin (R)
Metascore: 45
CIA Black Ops recruit Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), under the expert tutelage of Cold War vet Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) and the orders of CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan), is investigating some seemingly random attacks on both military and civilian targets. When they discover a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) attempting to start a war in the Middle East, they have to get assistance from a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to save the world. This film, which also stars David Suchet, Navid Negahban, and Scott Adkins, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. Dylan O’Brien’s really trying here, it’s always fun to see Michael Keaton and Sanaa Lathan, and Taylor Kitsch is trying something different. Give it a rent.
Despicable Me 3 (PG)

Gru (Steve Carrell) is back, and it’s no longer business as usual. After he’s fired from the Anti-Villain League for his failure to stop Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), the latest villain who threatened humanity, he finds himself at a crossroads. But, when he finds out he has a long-lost twin brother (Steve Carrell) who desperately wants to follow in his footsteps, Gru rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad. This film, which also stars Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, and Dana Gaier, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. If you’ve been in with the Despicable Me franchise from the beginning, there’s no reason to stop now. The kids will love it, and there’s a strong chance you will as well.
Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series
Metascore: 74
25 years after the shocking death of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, we return to the small town of Twin Peaks. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is still on the job, solving various crimes throughout the region, but something keeps calling him back to the town of his greatest case. This series, which also stars Piper Laurie, Laura Dern, and Miguel Ferrer, is available in an eight disc Blu-ray version and an eight disc DVD version. Twin Peaks was never my jam; it just seemed way too weird for me. But, David Lynch is an eccentric filmmaker, and I recommend it to all Lynch and Twin Peaks fans.
