What’s going on, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from playing Dragon Age: Crack - I mean, Inquisition - to bring you the latest releases in home media for December 9, 2014. In this week’s episode, we discuss a raccoon and a talking tree, football movies, Stephen King melodrama, and the Doctor. Ready to get it started? Let’s get it started, then.
Guardians of the Galaxy (3D Blu-ray + Blu-ray + Digital Copy)

In the interest of professionalism, I’m gonna try not to squee all over this review. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, a human who was abducted by aliens as a child. He now spends his days sleeping with (mostly) hot alien women and working as a smuggler for his captor/parental figure Yondu (Michael Rooker). Along the way, he meets Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), a talking raccoon named Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and a talking tree named Groot (Vin Diesel), and they join forces to stop Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) from destroying the galaxy. This movie, which also stars Glenn Close (!!), John C. Reilly, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin, is available in a two disc 3D Bluray/Bluray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Bluray version, and a single disc DVD version. Listen…when I tell you I hollered throughout this movie, I mean every word of it. I loved this movie from beginning to end, and I went to see it in theaters twice. I almost never see movies in theaters more than once. This movie was a lot of fun from beginning to end, and it is most certainly my pick of the week.

Jim Caveizel stars as Bob Ladouceur, head coach of the famous De La Salle Spartans in California. Under his leadership, the team won a record 151 straight games, but when urged by his wife Bev (Laura Dern) to focus more on his family, he has to balance his home life with his coaching career and find a way to succeed at both. This movie, which also stars Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig, is available in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. There wasn’t a whole lot of marketing for this movie; in fact, if I hadn’t been at the movies to see something else, I would have never heard of it. I like football movies, and I would’ve been interested in checking this one out. I guess I’ll have to watch it through home media now.
The tale of the people trapped under the dome in Chester’s Mill, Maine continues in this season. They struggle with living in what is essentially a post-apocalyptic society, as they’re cut off from the world at large. They also try to figure out where the dome came from and when it will go away - if it ever goes away. This series is available in both a four disc Bluray version and a four disc DVD version. I can’t recommend this show. At all. Unless you’re someone who has to absorb everything Stephen King, then avoid this like the plague. Next!
The Doctor is back, and he’s…different. Peter Capaldi takes over for Matt Smith in the twelfth incarnation of the renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. Fresh from his regeneration, he discovers he’s got a Scottish brogue, “attack eyebrows,” and a question that desperately needs answering: is he a good man? Alongside beleaguered companion Clara (Jenna Coleman), the two relearn each other and set off to face foes both old and new. This series, which also stars Samuel Anderson and Michelle Gomez is available in both a four disc Bluray version and a five disc DVD version. With the exception of one episode, I loved Series Eight; it was fun, freaky, and entertaining. Any other time it would be my pick of the week, but…those Guardians beat it to the punch. Oh, well…there’s always Series Nine.
