BluTuesday - February 18, 2014

What’s going on, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from lamenting the fact that Almost Human is probably gonna be cancelled by Fox (the bastards) to bring you the latest in home media releases for February 18, 2014. In this week’s episode, we talk about the impending winter and a crazy nurse. We’ve got a short week, but it’s an interesting one, so let’s dive in.

Game of Thrones: The Complete Third Season

In the third season of the hit HBO drama series Game of Thrones, the Lannisters are barely holding onto power after a savage naval onslaught from Stannis Baratheon, while stirrings in the North threaten to alter the overall balance of power in Westeros. Robb Stark, King in the North, is facing major calamity in his efforts to build on his victories over the Lannisters while beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder and his huge army of wildlings continue their inexorable march south. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen - reunited with her three fast-maturing dragons - attempts to raise an army to sail with her from Essos, in hopes of eventually claiming the Iron Throne. This season comes in a seven-disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version; a five-disc DVD version; or within a limited edition, collectible dragon sculpture set. To say we love Game of Thrones here would be an understatement, and it should come as no surprise that this is the pick of the week.

Nurse Jackie: Season 5

After leaving rehab early, Jackie finds sobriety and relative happiness — but that is the calm before the storm. With her marriage coming to an end, a careless accident sends Jackie (Edie Falco) to her own All Saints Hospital for emergency care. While recovering, she meets NYC policeman Frank Verelli (Adam Ferrera), whose flirtatious advances may lead Jackie into uncharted territory: dating. Stepping out of her usual comfort zone, challenged by new colleagues, Jackie faces her one-year sobriety anniversary. This season comes in both a two disc Bluray version and a three disc DVD version. I was a bit sketchy about this show in the early going, but it keeps proving me wrong time and time again. This is a testament to the great acting and the excellent showrunner. Give it a whirl; you won’t be disappointed.

Well, that’s all for this week; it’s certainly slim pickins here this time. Got any questions or comments? Did I amazingly miss something you wanted to talk about? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
