Greetings, citizens! Joseph here, and I have the neweset releases on Bluray for February 19, 2013. This week’s episode features the most interesting sci-fi movie ever made, Russians who sound oddly British, Pixar, white people doing stupid shit, a return to a fanciful universe, and that damn throne. Ready to roll? Let’s hit it.
Argo (R)
Based on real events, the dramatic thriller Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played—information that was not declassified until many years after the event. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments ask the CIA to intervene. The CIA turns to their top “exfiltration” specialist, Tony Mendez, to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies. This movie comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Ultraviolet version and a single disc DVD + Ultraviolet version. This movie is gripping from the opening reel to the final scene, and it’s my pick of the week.
Anna Karenina (R)

Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley, Academy Award nominee Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson dazzle in this stunning new vision of Leo Tolstoy’s epic love story. At the twilight of an empire, Anna Karenina (Knightley), the beautiful high-ranking wife of one of imperial Russia’s most esteemed men (Law), has it all. But when she meets the dashing cavalry officer Vronsky (Taylor-Johnson), there is a mutual spark of instant attraction that cannot be ignored. She’s immediately swept up in a passionate affair that will shock a nation and change the lives of everyone around her. This movie comes in three different versions: a two disc Bluray/DVD + Ultraviolet version, a single disc Bluray version, and a single disc DVD version. Look…I understand why Hollywood likes to use British people for Russians; have you ever heard the Russian language? It’s harsh! But, this is their story; it should be told by their tongue. At any rate, it’s a beautiful movie, and it deserves at least one viewing.
Monsters, Inc. (G)

Monsters, Inc. is a factory which sends monsters around the world to scare kids who are trying to sleep. It’s nothing personal, in fact the screams are used to power Monstropolis where the monsters live. This job isn’t easy for the monsters, who believe children are toxic. James P. Sullivan, a large woolly blue monster, is one of the company’s top scarers. Teamed up with a troublesome green one-eyed monster named Mike Wazowski, the two roommates and best friends are finding that today’s kids are not as easily scared as they used to be. One night Sulley accidentally lets a young girl named Boo into the monster world. Now Sulley and Mike must risk their own safety as they race to get Boo back into the human world without letting anyone know of her existence. This movie comes in a three different versions: a five disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy version, a three disc Bluray/DVD Collector’s Edition, and a two disc DVD version. This movie is cute, and you and your kids will love it. Go get it.
Sinister (R)

Ten years ago, true crime writer Ellison Oswald (Ethan Hawke) made his reputation with a best-selling account of a notorious murder. Now, desperate to replicate the success of his first book, he moves his family into a home where the previous occupants were brutally executed and a child disappeared, hoping to find inspiration in the crime scene. In the home, Ellison discovers a cache of terrifying home movies, unwittingly opening the door into a nightmarish mystery. This movie comes in both a single disc Bluray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I have a soft spot for this movie, as the novel it was based on was written by C. Robert Cargill, aka “Carlyle” from Spill.com. Granted, I hate horror movies, but this is one I would support for him alone.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome
An all-new chapter in the Battlestar Galactica saga, Blood & Chrome takes place in the midst of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino, “The Borgias”), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Though Adama quickly finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton, “Alcatraz”), the two men must set their differences aside when a routine escort mission with an enigmatic passenger (Lili Bordán, “Silent Witness”) turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet. The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes Blu-ray Disc, a DVD, a Digital Copy and UltraViolet and features a special Unrated version of the film. Bonus features include Blu-ray exclusive deleted scenes and the featurette “Blood & Chrome: Visual Effects,” where you can discover how the ground-breaking use of visual effects brought the world of Battlestar Galactica to life like you’ve never seen before!
Game of Thrones: The Complete Second Season
Based on the best-selling book series by George R.R. Martin, “Game of Thrones” is an epic drama set in the grounded fantasy continent of Westeros, where ambitious men and women of both honor and ill-repute live in a land where summers and winters can last years. Season 2 plays out against the backdrop of a fast-approaching winter – the season of the white raven. In King’s Landing, the coveted Iron Throne is occupied by cruel young Joffrey, counseled by his conniving mother Cersei and uncle Tyrion, who has been appointed Hand of the King. But the Lannister hold on the Throne is under assault on many fronts. There’s Robb Stark, son of the slain Lord of Winterfell, Ned Stark, who seeks autonomy in the North and has taken Cersei’s brother Jaime prisoner in battle; Daenerys Targaryen, who looks to shore up her depleted power in the east through three newborn dragons; Stannis Baratheon, eldest brother of the late King Robert, who rejects Joffrey’s legitimacy and aligns with a powerful priestess to raise a naval attack; and Stannis’ brother Renly, who has maintained his own claim since fleeing King’s Landing. Anyway, we at VaginaCon can’t get enough of the Game of Thrones saga, and here’s hoping you can’t, either.
