What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from dodging raindrops to bring you the latest releases to home media for February 23, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss a very unhappy holiday, groundbreaking news, cute dinosaurs, a slept on sci-fi classic, trouble in South Dakota, and The Doctor. All set? Let’s get started, then.
Krampus (NR)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 64%
Everyone knows the story of Saint Nicholas, the impetus of the modern Santa Claus. But, very few people know about his diametric: the Krampus. A dysfunctional family finds that out the hard way, as one young child giving up on the Christmas spirit is all that’s needed to bring the demonic Krampus to his home, and bring a new form of mayhem and horror the likes of which had never been seen before. This film, which stars Toni Collette, Allison Tolman, and Adam Scott, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Listen…I don’t do horror. But, everything I’ve seen and heard of the movie has been incredibly creepy, unsettling, and certainly worth your time if horror movies are your cup of tea.
Spotlight (R)

The pedophile scandal in the Catholic Church has been the most explosive one in modern history, and this film tells the story of the people responsible for bringing this darkness to light. In Boston, a group of reporters from the Boston Globe set forth to expose a cover-up that goes from the local churches all the way to the Catholic Archdiocese. This film, which stars Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, and Rachel McAdams, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This film is electric, and it is destined to be this generation’s All the President’s Men. That was a great movie, and so is this; so great, that it’s my pick of the week.
The Good Dinosaur (PG)

What would have happened if the asteroid that hit earth missed, and the dinosaurs never went extinct? This Pixar film sets to answer that question in the most adorable way possible. When a young apatosaurus named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa) makes a young human friend, they both set forth on an adventure that promises to help them conquer their fears and realize exactly who they’re supposed to be. This film, which also stars Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand, and Steve Zahn, is available in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This film is adorable, and it is a perfect family film for kids of all ages.
Warehouse 13: The Complete Series
If Area 51 is where the aliens are, then Warehouse 13 is where everything else is. Warehouse 13 is the codename for the storage place of all of the weirdest and dangerous artifacts the world has ever seen. Plus, it’s guarded by five of the most interesting and comedic protectors anyone could’ve ever asked for. This series, which stars Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, and Aaron Ashmore, is available in a 15 disc Blu-ray version and a 16 disc DVD version. This was a fun show, and I highly recommend it for anyone who was curious to what the hype was about. Either that, or you just missed it, because it was on SyFy.
Fargo: The Complete Second Season
In 1979 Sioux Falls, SD, Vietnam vet Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson) has signed on to be a police officer there, and he stumbles upon a case involving a crime gang a mob syndicate, and a beautician and her husband, who happens to be a butcher’s assistant. No way any of those are related, right? As with everything in this series, nothing is as it seems, and things go pear-shaped in a hurry. This series, which also stars Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Ted Danson, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This show is dark, funny, and certainly worth your time.
Doctor Who: The Husbands of River Song
It’s Christmas Day, and the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is hiding on a remote colony trying to avoid carolers and comedy antlers. But, when a spaceship crashes and River Song (Alex Kingston) asks for help, the Doctor has to go help his wife. Things with River are never what they seem, though; especially since she doesn’t recognize this regeneration. With robot bodyguards, angry kings, and the quest for knowledge at stake, the Doctor sets forth on his greatest adventure to date. This episode, which also stars Matt Lucas, Greg Davies, and Nonso Anozie, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. This episode has action, romance, and also serves as an endpoint for one of the show’s most talked about characters. Any Whovian would love to have this in their collection.
