BluTuesday - February 25, 2014

What’s going on, ProFans! Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from marathoning Stripes,Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters 2 to bring you the newest releases in home media for February 25, 2014. In this week’s episode, we talk about dreamy gods, spacewalkin’ done wrong, and an animated extravaganza. Ready to get down to it? Let’s jump right in.

Thor: The Dark World (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 65%

Exploring Thor’s relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, Thor: The Dark World follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers. This movie comes in a two disc 3D Bluray/Bluray + Digital Copy version, a single disc Bluray version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie was so much fun from beginning to end, and it also made Tom Hiddleston an even bigger star than he already was at the time. This movie made me laugh, made me gasp, and it has a couple of good stingers that are worth waiting for. On top of that, Chris Hemsworth is so bloody dreamy…and, this is my pick of the week.

Gravity (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 97%

Gravity, directed by Oscar nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone. This movie comes in both a three disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a two disc DVD + Digital Copy version. This movie was such a spectacle, and it was absolutely gorgeous to watch on the big screen. Will it carry over to the small screen? Maybe. Give it a watch and let me know!

Adventure Time: The Complete Third Season

It’s one crazy adventure after another in Cartoon Network’s #1 hit comedy show and Emmy-nominated series. Follow the post-apocalyptic adventures of Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada), a human boy with a funny hat, and his friend Jake (John DiMaggio), a magic and mischievous dog. They’re out to have the most fun possible and they sure do find it exploring the Land of Ooo! This series comes in both a single disc Bluray version and a two disc DVD version. This has been a terrific series thus far, and this season continues the trend of enjoyable characters and a phenomenal story. If you haven’t been watching this, stop what you’re doing and go watch it. Now.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to talk about? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Before I go, I have to offer my sincere condolences to the Ramis family for the loss of their patriarch. Harold Ramis was a very influential actor in the life of a lot of people in my generation, and he will be sorely missed. From acting in movies like Stripes and Ghostbusters to writing the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies, he was able to take a premise of a movie and make it his own. He also directed the iconic Groundhog Day and the grossly underrated Bedazzled remake starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Seriously, if you haven’t seen Bedazzled, go find it and watch it now; it’s fantastic. Regardless of how silly I think a movie may be, I can watch it without any qualms if I know he had a hand in it.

Farewell, Dr. Spengler; thanks for the good time.
