What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from pushing that boring Super Bowl out of my mind to bring you the latest releases to home media for February 9, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss a freaky horror movie, Jon Snow in modern times, the world’s creepiest spy, and a different look at the apocalypse. Ready to get started? Let’s get started.
Crimson Peak (R)

Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) is a wealthy debutante who falls for the mysterious Baronet Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) and runs away with him to his home in England. The home, which he calls “Crimson Peak,” because it sits on a red clay mountain, appears to be haunted. During exploration, Edith realizes that every house has secrets, and Crimson Peak has the biggest one she’s ever seen. This film, which also stars Jessica Chasten, Jim Beaver, and Leslie Hope, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie was directed by Guillermo Del Toro, and it was set up as a return to form to the prolific director. Instead, this movie was a bit of a bore. If you’re a Del Toro fan, then this is right up your alley. Otherwise, you can pass on this one.
MI-5 (R)

When Adam Qasim (Elyes Gabel) escapes from MI-5 during a transfer, Head of the Counterterrorism Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) is immediately blamed and forced to resign. However, instead of hanging his head in shame and disappearing, he goes rogue and coaxes former agent Will Holloway (Kit Harrington) out of retirement to clear not only his name, but the name of the MI-5 as a whole. This film, which also stars Jennifer Ehle, Tuppence Middleton, and Tim McInnerny, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. MI-5 was a thrilling TV series, and the movie is just as thrilling - if not more so. Give it a watch.
SPECTRE (PG-13)

James Bond (Daniel Craig) has a new mission, and it’s something that will take him on a journey through his past. He uncovers a mysterious organization known as SPECTRE, and realizes that not only does this organization have its tentacles in everything Bond’s dealt with since day one, he knows the head of the organization very well. This film, which also stars Christoph Waltz, Monica Bellucci, and Léa Seydoux, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Here’s the thing: SPECTRE has a lot of pieces to put together, and - outside of a few misses and creepy undertones - it’s up to the task. This is worth a watch.
The Leftovers: The Complete Second Season
Jarden, Texas is an anomaly. Three years after the Sudden Departure, this small town in Texas is the only city in the world that didn’t lose anyone. The Garvey family moves to this town and almost immediately clashes with the Murphy family, a prominent family in the community. Everyone begins to learn the lesson that you can’t escape your past. This series, which stars Justin Theroux, Kevin Carroll, and Regina King, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. I don’t feel that I did this show justice, because it is so great. This is my pick of the week, and I highly recommend watching it.
