What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from trying my damnedest to not get sick to bring you the latest releases to home media for January 23, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss freaky weather, the story of an icon, and some interesting detectives. Let’s get to it.
Geostorm (PG-13)
Metascore: 21
Sometime in the future, after a series of cataclysmic weather events almost wrecked the planet, the governments of the world came together to make satellites to control the weather. But, when that satellite system goes haywire, it’s a race against the clock to find out what went wrong before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone. This film, which stars Gerart Butler, Katheryn Winnick, and Abbie Cornish, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This movie feels like it’s trying to be about the hubris of man to control the weather, but it’s actually about the hubris of man trying to create another “evil weather” movie when Twister still exists. Maybe it’s a good “shut off your brain” movie, but…it’s a hard pass for me.
Goodbye Christopher Robin (PG)
Metascore: 54
At the end of World War I, A.A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) creates the world of Winnie-the-Pooh and becomes a phenomenon. However, the story’s successes come at a tragic cost to him, his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) and their child Christopher Robin (Will Tilston). This film, which also stars Kelly MacDonald, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Vicki Pepperdine, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. Well, seeing this movie puts a whole different spin on the Hundred Acre Woods. It’s a melancholy story, but it’s at least a well-acted one. Check it out.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency: Season Two
In season two of this BBC comedy, the dangers of the fantasy realm are coming to Earth to take over. Earth’s only defense against these threats is detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood), and his rowdy gang of misfits. This series, which also stars Hannah Marks, Jade Esthete, and Osric Chau, is available in a two disc Blu-ray version a two disc DVD version. This series is quirky, weird, but a lot of fun. Give it a watch.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit us up in the comments section below.
Until next time…
Goodbye Christopher Robin was a beautiful movie.
