What’s going on, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from the roller coaster weather down in my neck of the woods to talk about the latest releases to home media for January 28, 2014. In this week’s episode, we talk about historical auto racing, meatballs, hip old people, crazy “old” people, the gloriously British Benedict Cumberbatch, and the glory days of highfalutin’ British civilization. Rush (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 89%
Two-time Academy Award-winner Ron Howard delivers the exhilarating true story of a legendary rivalry that rocked the world. During the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, two drivers emerged as the best: gifted English playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth, The Avengers) and his methodical, brilliant Austrian opponent, Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl, Inglourious Basterds). As they mercilessly clash on and off the Grand Prix racetrack, the two drivers push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there’s no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. Co-starring Olivia Wilde (TRON: Legacy), it’s the heart-racing, epic, action-drama that critics are calling “one of the best movies of this, or any, year” (Pete Hammond, Movieline). This movie comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This will make you look at F1 racing in a whole different way, and I recommend it just for the spectacular acting of Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl alone. So, I’m making this underrated gem my pick of the week.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (PG)

Flint Lockwood now works at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V. But he’s forced to leave his post when he learns that his most infamous machine is still operational and is churning out menacing food-animal hybrids. This movie comes in a three disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. The return to this world is just as fascinating as the initial film, and it’s fun for the entire family.
Last Vegas (PG-13)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 47%
Three best friends in their late-60’s (Morgan Freeman, Robert DeNiro, Kevin Kline) decide to escape retirement and throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single (Michael Douglas). This movie comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. The best way to describe this movie is The Hangover for the AARP crowd. If this is your thing, have a go at it.
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (NR - NOTE: The original film was rated R)

86-year-old Irving Zisman is on a journey across America with one of the most unlikely companions, his 8 year-old grandson Billy in Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. Irving Zisman (Johnny Knoxville) and Billy (Jackson Nicoll) will take movie audiences along for the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera. Along the way Irving will introduce the young and impressionable Billy to people, places and situations that give new meaning to the term child rearing. The duo will encounter child beauty pageant contestants (and their mothers), funeral home mourners, biker bar patrons and a whole lot of unsuspecting citizens. Real people in unreal situations, making for one really messed up comedy. This movie comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Johnny Knoxville really isn’t my cuppa, but if you like it, I’m not one to complain.
Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Season 4 (U.K. Edition)
Six months after Matthew’s tragic death, his loss is still felt throughout Downton Abbey. Mary struggles to face a new future with her fatherless child, and is encouraged by the family to pick up the pieces. With the twenties in full swing and the tides of change sweeping through Downton, Rose’s continued attraction to the bright lights of London spells trouble for the Crawleys, and Edith’s budding relationship with Michael Gregson is threatened by events beyond her control. Meanwhile, below stairs, passions run high and young hearts look set to be broken. Writer and creator Julian Fellowes brings back this award-winning drama with the acclaimed ensemble cast led by Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, and Maggie Smith, as well as guest stars Shirley MacLaine and Paul Giamatti. We at Project Fandom love just about anything from the U.K., and this is no exception. Give it a watch.
