BluTuesday - January 29th, 2013
Bonjour! Joseph here, and I have the new releases on Bluray for January 29, 2013 for you. This week’s episode features Bruce Willis, a good Adam Sandler movie, the biggest stretch of found footage ever, Christopher Walken, and the British. Got a full set today, so let’s get into it!
Die Hard: 25th Anniversary Collection (NR)
Celebrate 25 years of Bruce Willis playing John McClane with this 5-Disc Collection featuring the first four Die Hard films and an all-new bonus disc, “Decoding Die Hard.” It’s the ultimate tribute to the tough-as-nails cop with a wry sense of humor and a knack for explosive action. Wrong place. Wrong time. Right man. Yippee ki yay! First things first…the saying is “Yippie ki yay, motherfucker!” Now that I have that out of the way…this masterpiece comes in a five disc Bluray set and a two disc DVD set. This movie has a 50/50 ratio, with the first and third movies being great, and the second and fourth a bit meh. But, it’s Bruce Willis; to coin a phrase from my friends at Movie Trailer Reveiws: he’s an impossible white man. On top of that, it’s my pick of the week.

Welcome to Hotel Transylvania Dracula’s lavish five-stake resort where monsters and their families can live it up and no humans are allowed. One special weekend Dracula (Adam Sandler) has invited all his best friends Frankenstein and his wife the Mummy the Invisible Man the Werewolf family and more to celebrate his beloved daughter Mavis’s (Selena Gomez) 118th birthday. For Dracula catering to all of these legendary monsters is no problem but the party really starts when one ordinary guy stumbles into the hotel and changes everything! This movie comes in a three disc Bluray 3D/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy set, a two disc Bluray/DVD set, and a single disc DVD set. This movie was actually fun, regardless of the fact that Adam Sandler had a prominent role. This has the potential of being a Halloween classic for all ages, so check it out!
Paranormal Activity 4 (NR) Note: the original film was rated R

It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in. This movie comes in a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I’m sure these movies used to be fun, but the found footage genre has completely obliterated any credulity it may have had. Unless you’re a fan of the series, I’d pass on this one.

A screenwriter, struggling for inspiration for his script, gets drawn into the dog kidnapping schemes of his oddball friends. Things take a turn for the worse when a gangster’s mutt goes missing. This movie comes in a single disc Bluray + Ultraviolet copy and a single disc DVD copy. Despite the minimalistic preview, this movie was actually pretty fun to watch. However, I’ll be the first to admit that it ain’t for everyone, so this may be a try before you buy type movie.
Downton Abbey: Season Three (Original UK version)
Downton Abbey tells the story of a complicated community. The house has been home to the Crawley family for many generations, but it is also where their servants live, and plan, and dream, and they are as fiercely jealous of their rank as anyone. Some of them are loyal to the family and committed to Downton as a way of life, others are moving through, on the look out for betterment or love or just adventure. The difference is that they know so many of the secrets of the family, while the family know so few of theirs. But for all the passions that rage beneath the surface, this is a secure world, serene and ordered, and, at first glance, it seems it will last forever. Little do they know, family or staff, that the clouds of the conflict that will change everything are already gathering over their heads. This series comes in both a three disc Bluray set and a three dsic DVD set. As I’ve been pretty fond of saying for several weeks now, we at VaginaCon love anything from the British, so I’m gonna do something I normally don’t do: this is ALSO my pick of the week. Groundbreaking!
