What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from shaking off the cobwebs of returning to work to bring you the latest releases to home media for January 3, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the return of a horror legend, the difference between fact and fiction, and Millennials™. Let’s kick off the New Year with a bang, shall we?
Blair Witch (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 35%
In 1994, Heather Donahue went missing in the Black Hills Forest in Maryland. Twenty years later, her brother James (James Allen McCune) stumbles across an image that looks like her, and he gathers a bunch of friends to help him find her. What they discover is that the myth and legend of the horrific Blair Witch is real, and their nightmares have just begun. This film, which also stars Callie Hernandez, Corbin Reid, and Valorie Curry, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version. For fans of The Blair Witch Project, this is right up their alley, and I hope they enjoy it.
Denial (PG-13)

Based on a true story, this film tells the story of Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) and her legal and emotional battle against Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall) to prove that the Holocaust did indeed happen. When David takes Deborah to court in Britain, she learns that the British legal system is very different from the American one, and it’s up to her as the accused to prove that she is correct about the Holocaust. This film, which also stars Tom Wilkison, Andrew Scott, and Mark Gatiss, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This film is well-acted, gripping, and a sobering reminder that there are people who still think like this - even today. Now, more than ever, facts do matter.
Girls: The Complete Fifth Season
In the fifth season of HBO’s critically acclaimed show, we find the titular girls in a whole new set of situations. Hannah (Lena Dunham) has decided to stop writing and become a teacher, Marnie (Allison Williams) is a married woman who now realizes she needs her space, Jessa (Jemima Kirke) is working towards becoming a therapist while juggling a successful relationship, and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) is enjoying life at her new job in Japan while flirting with her boss and juggling a long distance relationship. Fun. This series, which also stars Jake Lacey, Ebon Moss-Bacharach, and Jason Ritter, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a two disc DVD version. I am not one to begrudge anyone from liking what they like, and if you like this, I’m happy for you. Enjoy.
