What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from getting re-acclimated to work to bring you the newest releases to home media for January 5, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss stalkers, video game movies, an interesting hostage situation, highwire high jinks, a bad visit to Mexico, the last place you want to go over the river and through the woods to, and being prepared taken to its logical conclusion. We got a lot to get to, so let’s get to it.
The Perfect Guy (R) - released December 29, 2015
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 21%
Leah Vaughn (Sanaa Lathan) has it all; a great job as a lobbyist, a nice house, and her loving boyfriend Dave (Morris Chestnut). However, when Dave’s slow-moving gets too much for her, she leaves him for a charismatic IT professional named Carter (Michael Ealy). Unfortunately, Carver’s charm hides a darker secret, and it threatens to tear down everything Leah has worked so hard to build up. This film, which also stars Charles S. Dutton, Tess Harper, and Rutina Wesley, is available in a single disc Blu-ray version and a single disc DVD version. This film is smart and sexy, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Plus, Michael Ealy plays creepy VERY well. This is a good date night movie for you couples out there.
Hitman: Agent 47 (R) - released December 29, 2015

Agent 47 (Rupert Friend) is one of the best genetically modified assassins out there; he’s quick, he’s stealthy, and he always gets his mark. But, when he meets Katia van Dees (Hannah Ware), he learns that the organization he works for has created a series of super strong assassins based off of his DNA, and they are actually better than him at every level. Now, two heroes are on the run from the very dangerous “John Smith” (Zachary Quinto) as they move to bring this organization to its knees. This film, which also stars Thomas Kretschmann, Cirian Hinds, and Emilio Rivera, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Nah.
The Walk (PG-13)

French daredevil Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a dreamer looking to achieve the impossible; he wants to tightrope walk between the Twin Towers. Alongside his lover Annie Allix (Charlotte Le Bon) and the concerns of his mentor Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), he sets forth to make history and give the people of New York a thrill the likes of which they had never seen. This film, which also stars James Badge Dale, Clement Sibony, and Ben Schwartz, is available in a two disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray version, a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a fanciful dramatization; unfortunately, it also pales in comparison to the 2008 Academy Award winning documentary Man on Wire. I’ll say this much, though; this is a beautifully shot movie, and it looks even better in 3D. So…it’s got that going for it, which is nice.
Sicario (R)

Emily Blunt stars in this movie as Kate Macy, an idealistic FBI agent who’s pretty good at her job. She gets enlisted into an elite government task force by Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) in an attempt to curtail the escalating War on Drugs. However, when they run into the enigmatic and dangerous Alejandro Gillick (Benicio Del Toro), they quickly realize how far in over their heads they really are. This film, which also stars Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Donovan, and Maximiliano Hernandez, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This film is brutal in its unflinching look at the decades long War on Drugs between the U.S. and Mexico, and it shows how exhausting and ultimately futile such an endeavor can become after a while. This is most certainly my pick of the week, and I can’t recommend it any higher.
The Visit (R)

From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan comes this latest horror film. When Rebecca (Olivia DeJonge) and Tyler (Ed Oxenbould) go to visit their grandparents in rural Pennsylvania, they discover a horrible secret with their Nana and Pop Pop that could make this trip may be their last. This film, which also stars Kathryn Hahn, Deanna Dunagan, and Peter McRobie, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a creepy movie, and it’s worth watching if you’re a horror fan.
Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (R)

Oh, look; another zombie movie. Yay. Ben (Tye Sheridan), Carter (Logan Miller), and Augie (Joey Morgan) are the only three who can save us when the zombie apocalypse begins. Along with Denise (Sarah Morgan), a cocktail waitress, they have to fend off the zombies until reinforcements arrive. This film, which also stars David Koechner, Cloris Leachman, and Halston Sage, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Have fun with that, guys.
