What’s going on, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from Auld Lang Syne-ing (seriously, does anyone know the lyrics to that damn song?) to bring you the latest releases to home media for January 6, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss Daniel Radcliffe, the Godfather of Soul, creepy stalkers, oddly old teenagers, the world’s worst spy, and pirates. We got a lot to get out of the way, so let’s just jump right in.

The number one suspect in the murder of his girlfriend Merrin (Juno Temple), Ig Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe) goes out for a night of drinking and wakes up with horns on his head. The horns are supernatural in design, as he is able to get people around him - who can’t see the horns - to confess to their dirty secrets. Ig decides to use his newfound talent to find out who really killed his girlfriend. This movie is available in a single disc Bluray version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is sufficiently creepy and Daniel Radcliffe gives a great performance…although his American accent does tend to slip from time to time. Anyway, this is worth a look.

Before taking on the mantle of T’Challa, Chadwick Boseman embodies another historical person, this time taking on the role of James Brown in this autobiographical film. This film takes a look at how James Brown went from a poor, neglected child to the world renowned entertainer we all know and love - warts and all. This movie, which also stars Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Dan Aykroyd, is available in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This is a great movie with fantastic music and spectacular acting, and it is a must watch.

Idris Elba plays Colin, a charming sociopath who seeks help from Terri (Taraji P. Henson), but he turns on the crazy when he starts to terrorize her and her children. This movie, which also stars Kate Del Castillo, Henry Simmons, and Leslie Bibb, is available in both a single disc Bluray version and a single disc DVD version. My wife went to see this movie when it was in theaters, and she didn’t like it at all. I knew better to look at this, although I like everyone involved. If you want to get your Idris Elba fix, watch the Mandela biopic…or Luther…or Thor. Don’t watch this.
Rachel, Kurt, and Santana are living it up in New York City, and Rachel is forced to make a decision that could change everything, the New Directions are trying to win Nationals again, and Finn’s tragic death helps everyone realize how precious life is. This series, which stars Lea Michele, Kevin McHale, Chris Colfer, and Jane Lynch, is available in a six disc DVD version. I’ve never seen a second of this show, but it has its fans. So, I won’t besmirch those very dedicated fans. Enjoy.
Taking place twenty years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, this tells the story of Captain Flint as he takes on a young sailor that goes by John Silver. Together, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island and prevent their own extinction. This show is available in both a three disc Bluray version and a three disc DVD version. This show is a swashbuckling good time, and it’s everything the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean wishes it was. Go watch this as soon as possible.
Flush with an overabundance of cocaine, Archer and his companions form a cartel to sell the drug. Along the way, they deal with an FBI bust, Cheryl becoming a country singer, Kenny Loggins, and an announcement that shakes Archer to the core. This show, which stars H. John Benjamin, Judy Greer, and Aisha Tyler, is available in both a two disc Bluray version and a two disc DVD version. This show is so much fun, and it’s completely irreverent. So much so, that this is my pick of the week.
