What’s going on? Joseph here, and I’ve got the fresh goods in Bluray for January 8th, 2013. Today’s episode features kid scientists, the law, politics, someone who’s always winning, kinky spies, people trying to turn over a new leaf, and British space explorers. All comfy in that big chair of yours? Then, let’s get this show on the road.
Frankenweenie (PG)

From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes the hilarious and offbeat “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town learn that getting a new ‘leash on life’ can be monstrous.

The future America is an irradiated wasteland. On its East Coast lies Mega City One - a vast violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge jury and instant executioner. The ultimate Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is tasked with ridding the city of its latest scourge -a dangerous drug and the sadistic prostitute turned drug pusher (Lena Headey) who is using it to take over the city. Let me make one thing perfectly clear: this movie is a HARD “R”. People die in viciously brutal ways. If you can stomach it, this is the flick for you.

Game Change is a searing, behind-the-scenes look at John McCain’s (Ed Harris) 2008 presidential campaign, from the decision to select Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (Julianne Moore) as McCain’s running mate to the ticket’s ultimate defeat in the general election just sixty days later. Told primarily through the eyes of senior McCain strategist Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson), who originally championed Palin and later came to regret the choice, Game Change pulls back the curtain on the intense human drama surrounding the McCain team, the critical decisions made behind closed doors and how the choice was made to bring Palin on the ticket. The film examines how we choose our leaders by offering a unique glimpse into the inner workings of an historic campaign. If you’re a political junkie, or you’re courious to see how all of this worked out, then I say check this one out. If anything, you get to see another great Sarah Palin impression.
Starring award-winning actor Charlie Sheen, the show follows a non-traditional therapist specializing in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patient regulars each week, as well as performing pro bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison. Charlie thrives on the chaos in his life while still battling his own anger issues. This series comes in a two disc Bluray version and two disc DVD version. This must’ve done okay, as it says it’s “Season One” and not the “Complete Seriees,” so…it’s got that going for it, which is nice. I’m sure it has an audience somewhere. Not sure where, but it has one, right? Right?
Archer: The Complete Season Three
Join suave master spy Sterling Archer and his team at ISIS for another hilarious season of over-sexed, hard-drinking espionage and insanity! With a crisis brewing aboard the international space station, Earth may be doomed, but the world’s most dangerous secret agent has bigger worries. Archer’s dead fianc‚e returns to life as a cyborg. His nemesis, Bionic Barry, takes over the KGB, and Archer’s mother has steamy affairs with both the Italian prime minister and Archer’s man-crush. Packed with outrageous operations and irreverent intrigue, Season Three comes armed to the teeth with exclusive, highly classified animated extras. This series comes in a two disc Bluray set and a two disc DVD set…figure the odds on that one, huh? This is animated hilarity at its finest; check it out.
Enlightened: The Complete First Season
Enlightened centers on Amy Jellicoe (Laura Dern), a 40-year-old woman who returns home to California after a month’s stay at a holistic treatment facility, a result of having a mental breakdown at work triggered by her self-destructive ways. Amy returns to her old life with a new cultivated approach and perspective, which includes daily meditation and exhorting the power of self-help and inner healing. Though Amy wants to be an “agent of change” in the world, the people who know her best are skeptical of her latest intentions. Also stars Luke Wilson, and Diane Ladd. This show, much like the other shows on this list, comes in a two disc Bluray set and a two disc DVD set. I just saw a exposé on Laura Dern on CBS News Sunday Morning, and it was an eye-opener. I think this will be a good one for people to check out. If anything, you get to see her act alongside her mother (Diane Ladd).
The most inept band of space travelers ever to roam the interstellar highway; return with an all-new season of misadventures! The brand new series, written and directed by Doug Naylor, begins with the Dwarfers mining ship still creaking though the wastelands of unchartered deep space, but the posse soon stumbles upon the mysteriously abandoned SS Trojan. As they inspect the ship Rimmer receives an SOS distress call from an old foe and is suddenly faced with the dilemma of his life. Red Dwarf X reunites the much loved original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) and promises to be a huge hit amongst the Sci Fi sitcom’s cult following of devoted fans. This series comes in a two disc Bluray and two disc DVD set…at this point, I think they’re just yanking my crank. Anyway, we at VaginaCon love anything from the BBC, so we’re willing to give this a try. So should you.
