What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from family time to bring you the latest releases to home media for July 10, 2018. In this week’s episode, we discuss chilling horror, a historical tragedy, and magic! Let’s get to it.
A Quiet Place (PG-13)
Metascore: 82
Years after an alien invasion wiped out most of civilization, a family of four (John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Cade Woodward, and Millicent Simmonds) has to survive by not making a sound. Complicating things is Evelyn’s (Blunt) due to give birth at any moment. This film, which also stars Leon Russom, Doris McCarthy, and Noah Jupe, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This is a chilling thriller that has all the best horror movie tropes without being totally scary, but it’s scary enough that I won’t be watching because I don’t do horror. I’ve heard this is great, though; you should totally watch it.
Chappaquiddick (PG-13)
Metascore: 67
The Kennedy family is an American family of legends, but even legends have their skeletons. When Ted Kennedy (Jason Clarke) accidentally drives his car off of the eponymous bridge, it not only ends the life of brilliant political strategist Mary Jo Kopechne (Kate Mara), but it also changes the political landscape of America forever. This film, which also stars Ed Helms, Jim Gaffigan, and Clancy Brown, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD version. This is a very good political thriller, giving viewers a bit of an inside look at what possibly could have happened on that fateful night. Check it out.
The Magicians: Season Three
In the third season of this SyFy series, the eponymous magicians find themselves living in a world without magic. To regain what was lost, the intrepid team of magicians have to undergo a series of quests to find seven keys to restore magic to the world. This series, which stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, and Olivia Taylor Dudley, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This series is trippy, slightly terrifying, and a lot of fun. Give it a watch if you haven’t already.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.
Also, for my birthday this year, I am asking for donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Center. We’ve all seen the commercials they play during movies and sometimes on TV, as well as adverts on either Domino’s Pizza boxes or at your local grocery store or gas station. If you’re able to contribute anything, follow this link. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and it will go to a great cause. Please, and thank you.
Until next time…
