BluTuesday - July 28, 2015

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from getting school supplies to bring you the latest releases to home media for July 28, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss two misfits coming together, the dark side of the DC Animated Universe, and horror in the woods. Ready to get started? Here we go.

Home (PG)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 45%

Oh (Jim Parsons) is an alien from another planet who is on the run from his species. Tip (Rihanna) is a little girl who is on a mission of her own. These two unlikely friends run into each other and set forth on a journey of discovery, understanding, and finding the meaning of the word “home.” This film, which also stars Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Matt L. Jones, is available in a three disc 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is an adorable film, although if you look too hard, you may find something that’s a bit off-putting. Other than that, it’s a fun watch.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD UltraViolet Combo Pack)

What would happen if the Justice League triumvirate we know and love weren’t who we thought they were? This film sets forth to answer that question. In an alternate reality, Superman isn’t Clark Kent, Batman isn’t Bruce Wayne, and Wonder Woman isn’t Princess Diana of Themyscira. Instead, these heroes rule the earth with an iron fist. When some scientsts go missing in “accidents,” the people of earth must come together to defeat their dictators. This film, which stars Benjamin Bratt, Michael C. Hall, and Tamara Taylor, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version with a Wonder Woman action figure, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This film sets out to answer the famous question “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?” - roughly translated as “Who watches the watchmen?” The answer is one that will leave you breathless until the end, and this film is my pick of the week.

Helix: The Complete Second Season

Free from the terrors of the Arctic, Dr. Alan Farragut (Billy Campbell) leads his team to the island of St. Germain, an island inhabited by a religious cult that goes back generations. Unfortunately, this island can’t save them from the dangers and evils of the Ilaria Corporation. This series, which also stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Luciana Carro, and Jordan Hayes, is available in both a three disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. This show is gripping and terrifying, and it’s certainly something to watch…if you like that sort of thing.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
