News Ticker

BluTuesday - July 7, 2015

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from recuperating from the 4th of July weekend to bring you the latest releases to home media for July 7, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss a revolutionary love triangle, yet another sexy werewolf series, yet another sexy witch series, and Kevin Spacey. Ready to get started? Let’s go.

Poldark

When Captain Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) returns from fighting in the Revolutionary War, his family, friends, and loved ones are surprised; mostly because he was believed to be dead. His land has been ransacked, his fiancee Elizabeth (Heida Reed) has moved on and is betrothed to his cousin Francis (Kyle Soller), and the only person who can help him is Demelza (Elanor Tomlinson), a kitchen maid. Together, they have to put right what went wrong. This series, which also stars Jack Farthing, Warren Clarke, and Richard Harrington, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray version and a two disc DVD version. This really isn’t my speed, but I’m sure there are fans of the historical romantic drama. If so, then this is the miniseries for you.

Bitten: The Complete Second Season

Elena (Laura Vandervoort) and The Pack are hellbent on revenge and are on the hunt for the mastermind behind the Mutt uprising. What they don’t realize is that there is a more powerful force afoot in a realm only known as the Otherworld. This time, it’s not just Elena and The Pack who is in trouble, but it’s the fate of the entire werewolf species that hangs in the balance. This series, which also stars Greyston Holt and Greg Bryk, is available in a three disc DVD version. I like Laura Vandervoort fine. That’s all I got. Sorry.

Witches of East End: The Complete Season Two

As Joanna (Julia Ormond) clings to life after the events of the season one finale, the Beauchamps have other issues to handle, namely the arrival of King Nikolaus (Ignacio Serrichio). There is also the small matter of Frederick (Christian Cooke), the redheaded stepchild who could either unite his family or tear them apart. This series, which also stars Bianca Lawson, Rachel Boston, and Jenna Dewan Tatum, is available in a three disc DVD version. Lifetime is putting in work with this series, as they’re really trying to get the fantasy/sci-fi crowd in. I wish them well.

House of Cards: Season 3

Frank Underwood is back! Kevin Spacey returns as the President of the United States, and he has only one goal: to secure his legacy. However, he’s running into an issue he didn’t see coming…that of his wife Claire (Robin Wright). Not content with just being the First Lady, she wants to be so much more. They soon realize that their biggest obstacles aren’t those in the Capitol, but it’s those in their own bedroom. This series, which also stars Michael Kelly, Elizabeth Marvel, and Derek Cecil, is available in both a four disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This series has been consistently smart and entertaining, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. This series is my pick of the week. God bless the Union.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Please feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
