BluTuesday - June 13, 2017

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from summer work to bring you the latest releases to home media for June 13, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss headshots galore, a blocky superhero, Syfy goodness, the struggle to go legit, the oldest fourth graders in history, and the end of some beautiful icons. We have quite a few to get to, so let’s get started.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 89%

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is back, and bloodier than ever. Wick is forced out of retirement again by an associate who wants to take control of an international assassins’ guild. He has to travel to Rome to take on some of the world’s deadliest killers. This film, which also stars John Leguizamo, Lance Reddick, and Laurence Fishburne, is available in a two disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. The first movie was a sleeper hit, and the second one expounded on the mythos. It’s certainly a must watch.

The LEGO Batman Movie (PG)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 90%

Will Arnett reprises his role from The LEGO Movie as the Caped Crusader as he tries to defend Gotham City from the evil machinations of The Joker (Zach Galifianakis). Along the way, he picks up a new ally in Dick Grayson, also known as Robin (Michael Cera), and Barbara Gordon, who assumes the mantle of Batgirl (Rosario Dawson). Together, they have to save the day and learn to work with each other. This film, which also stars Ralph Fiennes, Mariah Carey, and Billy Dee Williams, is available in a two disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie is funny and adorable, and it’s certainly worth checking out for the whole family.

Dark Matter: Season Two

This Syfy smash hit returns for its second season. After the events of the first season that led to a betrayal, the crew of the Raza is split up. Some of the crew are imprisoned, while some others are shipped off to start a new life. However, fate continues to bring them back together. This series, which stars Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, and Franka Potente, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a five disc DVD version. This is one of the most beloved shows on Syfy, and it’s definitely worth checking out.

Power: The Complete Third Season

James St. Patrick, also known as Ghost (Omari Hardwick) is a drug kingpin trying to go legit. Unfortunately, he’s getting resistance from all angles: Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), an old childhood friend, comes in to threaten the delicate balance between his secret life and his family one, and an old flame comes in to wreak havoc on his current life as well. This series, which also stars Naturi Naughton, Lela Loren, and Lucy Walters, is available in a three disc Blu-ray version and a three disc DVD version. This is a gritty look at the New York City nightlife, led by the watchful eye of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as EP. It’s worth a watch.

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Eighth and Final Season

In the final season of this CW hit, we find Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) still on their killing spree, being commanded by an unknown force. While Bonnie (Kat Graham), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Caroline (Candice King) are dealing with their grief, they’re also investigating who or what caused the mass disappearances of the past season. It all comes to a head in this season, and it will leave fans talking for years to come. This series, which also stars Zach Roerig, Matt Davis, and Kristen Gutoskie, is available in three disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a three disc DVD version. This series certainly has its fans, and it’s been a delightful ride. Finish off the series in style.
