What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from trying to marathon Game of Thrones - again - to bring you the latest releases to home media for June 16, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss chatty robots, rising from your grave, Liam Neeson, and an honest look at the inner workings of cable TV. All ready to go? Let’s get started.
Chappie (R)

In the near future, robots are the police force, and we are the unwitting charges. But, when a group of anarchists steal and reprogram one of the robots, he gains the ability to think and feel for himself. The robot, now called Chappie, must now fight for its very existence against those who would see him deactivated. This film, which stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, and Sigourney Weaver, is available in both a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Neil Blonkamp has been dining on District 9 for quite some time. Now? He may need to start dining on something else, because this was not good. If you’re a fan of his or Copley, then have at it. If not? Go watch something else.
The Lazarus Effect (R)

Frank (Mark Duplass) and Zoe (Olivia Wilde) have done the unthinkable: they have figured out a way to bring the dead back to life. Those tests were unsanctioned by the university they receive their funding from, and when the president finds out, he shutters their funding. Unabashed, they try to recreate the experiment, but something goes horribly wrong. Not only that, but their attempts to set right what once went wrong go even worse, because horror. This film, which also stars Donald Glover, Sarah Bolger, and Evan Peters, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Nope.
Run All Night (R)

When a hit goes bad, mob hit-man Jimmy Conlon and his estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) must evade a vengeful mob boss (Ed Harris) who has bad intentions on his mind. This film, which also stars Common, Robert Boyd Holbrook, and Vincent D’Onofrio, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Well, I know the description is limiting, but that’s all they gave me. I like Liam Neeson and Ed Harris fine, but I would’ve loved to see this movie about 20 years ago. Oh, well.
This final season of the acclaimed HBO series takes another look at the goings on at the Atlantis Cable News Network (ACN). The drama takes hold not only onscreen but off, as we see how everyone is affected by the decisions of the higher ups. This series, which stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, and Jane Fonda, is available in both a two disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a two disc DVD version. This series is thought-provoking and very well written. This is also my pick of the week.
