What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from keeping an eye on the tropics to bring you the latest releases to home media for June 7, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss stop motion animation at its finest, George Clooney, Pixar excellence, animated hijinks, and fighting for the music. We have a few to get to today, so let’s get to it.
Anomalisa (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 92%
Michael Stone (David Thewlis) is an accomplished author, a good husband, and a loving father who has a hard time connecting with other people. However, when he gets sent away to Cincinnati to go to a customer service convention, he realizes that there is more to life than what he’s currently dealing with. This film, which also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tom Noonan, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This film is very good and it’s a master clinic in how to use stop motion animation in a fantastic way. I highly recommend it.
Hail, Caesar! (PG-13)

Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin) is a big-time Hollywood fixer in the latter years of the industry’s Golden Age; anything goes wrong with his clients, it’s up to him to make it right. However, on this one particular day, everything seems to be going wrong, and it’s up to him to make it right somehow. This film, which also stars George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, and Ralph Fiennes, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. The Coen brothers tend to make good films, and this is another one for their highlight reel. It’s funny, it’s irreverent, and it’s an all around good time.
Zootopia (PG)

The metropolis of Zootopia is a city that, for lack of a better word, is a melting pot. The predators and the prey of the animal kingdom live together in a sort of harmony. But, when rookie police officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she realizes that being a bunny rabbit around other big, tough animals isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. So, in order to prove her worth, she teams up with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a fast-talking, scam-artist fox to solve an uncrackable case. This film, which also stars Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, and J.K. Simmons, is available in a single disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. This is one of those movies that seems fluffy on the surface - no pun intended, but touches on some really big and touchy subjects. It’s definitely my pick of the week.
Rick and Morty: The Complete Second Season
Rick (Justin Roiland) is still living with his daughter Beth (Sarah Chalke) and her family and causing all sorts of mayhem. He’s also dragging his grandson Morty (Justin Roiland) more and more into his intergalactic adventures. How will the family survive finding out more and more about Grandpa Rick’s escapades? This series, which also stars Chris Parnell and Spencer Grammer, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a two disc DVD version. This is a ridiculously funny show and I give it high marks. Give it a watch.
Vinyl: The Complete First Season
Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) is the founder and president of America Century Records, and he’s trying to keep his small label afloat despite falling on hard times. When his company is on the verge of being sold, he experiences a life-altering event that reinvigorates his love for music, but it comes at a terrible cost. This series, which also stars Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, and Ato Essandoh, is available in a four disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a four disc DVD + Digital Copy version. If you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes stuff of the music industry, this is the series for you. Check it out; you might like it.
