Hey, ProFans! Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from recuperating from my daughter’s birthday party to bring you the newest releases in home media for March 11, 2014. In this week’s episode, we talk about the beauty of literature and Jason Statham doing what Jason Statham does every day. We’ve got a short week this week, but something is better than nothing. Let’s get down to it, shall we?
The Book Thief (PG-13)

Based on the beloved best-selling book comes this profoundly moving story of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her during World War II, Germany. Although Liesel (Sophie Nelisse) is illiterate when she is adopted by a German couple (OSCAR Winner Geoffrey Rush* and Emily Watson**), her adoptive father encourages her to learn to read. Ultimately, the power of words helps Liesel and Max (Ben Schnetzer), a Jew hiding in the family’s home, escape from the events unfolding around them in this extraordinary, acclaimed film directed by Brian Percival (Downton Abbey). This movie comes in a single disc Bluray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie is hauntingly beautiful, and it is certainly worth your time. It’s also hands down my pick of the week.
Homefront (R)

Homefront stars Jason Statham as former drug enforcement agent, Phil Broker, a family man who moves off the grid with his daughter, to a seemingly quiet bayou backwater to escape his troubled past. However, Broker’s world soon becomes anything but quiet once he discovers that an underbelly of drugs and violence riddles the small town. Soon, a sociopathic methamphetamine kingpin, Gator Bodine (James Franco) puts Broker and his daughter in harm’s way forcing Broker back into action in order to save his family and the town. This movie is available in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. If you know what Jason Statham brings to the table, then you know what you’re getting into. Otherwise, walk on by.
