BluTuesday - May 10, 2016

What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from basking in the glow that is Captain America: Civil War to bring you the latest releases to home media for May 10, 2016. In this week’s episode, we discuss the Merc with the Mouth, a Harry Potter reunion of sorts, and three badass bounty hunters taking cases for the joy. We’ve got a few things to get to, so let’s get to it.

Deadpool (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 83%

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is your normal Special Forces guy; he’s caustic, he’s violent, and he’s good at his job. He also has cancer that’s spreading everywhere. With the blessings of his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarain), he undergoes a special treatment that is supposed to save his life; instead, it gives him accelerated healing, fourth wall breaking awareness, and a face that would make Jesus curse in horror. He becomes the mutant mercenary Deadpool, and he decides that he will not rest until he gets vengeance on those who have wronged him. This film, which also stars Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, and Gina Carano, is available in a two disc 4K Ultra-HD/Blu-ray + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Deadpool, which is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, has been a fan favorite since day one due to his no nonsense attitude and penchant for violence. This was a highly anticipated film that exceeded every expectation laid upon it. This film is violent, it’s funny, it’s sexy, and it’s my pick of the week.

Regression (R)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 14%

Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) is a 90s era Minnesota detective who is investigating a case brought to him by Angela Gray (Emma Watson). Angela is accusing her father John (David Dencik) of a horrific crime, but when he suddenly admits guilt, it’s up to psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) to help bring his memories to the forefront and uncover a nationwide mystery. This film, which also stars Aaron Ashmore, Devon Bostick, and Dale Dickey, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This film is sufficiently creepy and mysterious, and it’s certainly worth your time if atmospheric thrillers are your bag.

Killjoys: Season 1

Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), John (Aaron Ashmore) and D’avin (Luke Macfarlane) are three hard-living, fun-loving interplanetary bounty hunters in the Quad. Their only mission in life is to bring in dangerous bounties and rake in the Joy. However, when they stumble upon a multi-planetary war that threatens to rip the Quad to shreds, they have to decide where their loyalties truly lie. This series, which also stars Rob Stewart, Sarah Power, and Mayko Nguyen, is available in a two disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a two disc DVD version. This show had me riveted from episode one, and I watched each episode with bated breath. There’s something about space operas that speak to me, and this show satisfied a very specific itch. If sci-fi space operas are your thing, give this a watch. At least we know it’s getting a second season.

That’s all I’ve got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Please feel free to hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
