News Ticker

BluTuesday - November 25, 2014

What’s going on, ProFans? Joseph here, and I’m taking a break from my road trip to bring you the latest releases in home media for November 25, 2014. In this week’s episode, we discuss giving and taking away and the geriatric Avengers. All ready to go? Let’s go.

The Giver

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 36%

Based on the Newberry Award winning novel by Lois Lowry, The Giver stars Brenton Thwaites as a young man named Jonas. Jonas has been chosen to meet The Giver (Jeff Bridges) and become his eventual successor. People who are chosen to be The Giver have the memories of his community, but that comes at a powerful price. As Jonas learns these memories, he realizes he has to escape in order to protect those he loves. This film - which also stars Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes - is available in both a three disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This movie was a pet project for Jeff Bridges, and he sunk a lot into getting this film made. It worked, because we’re seeing this book be translated to film, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good movie. This may be something you have to judge on your own, because what works for me may not work for you.

The Expendables 3 [Blu-ray]

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 33%

Then, we get to this shit. Sylvester Stallone brings in everyone he can muster to star in the third movie in this inexplicable series. The good guys, led by Sylvester Stallone are going up against the bad guys, led by Mel Gibson (natch). Stuff blows up, the carnage is bloodless, and the movie is ridiculous - and not in a good way. This movie is available in a single disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. Don’t watch this. Please. I beg of you. I can’t even do a proper write-up on it, because it makes my head hurt.

Well, that’s all I got for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to discuss? Feel free to hit me up in the comments section below. On behalf of all of us at Project Fandom, I want to wish you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

Until next time…
