What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from binging on donuts and coffee to bring you the latest releases to home media for November 3, 2015. In this week’s episode, we discuss Pixar hitting you in the feels, Pixar bringing out the classics, and a nostalgia trip that no one asked for. Ready to get started? Let’s get started.
Inside Out (PG)
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 98%
Moving to a new city is hard to do. So, when Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) and her family move from Minnesota to San Francisco, her emotions go all in flux. Those emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) - have to sort out Riley’s feelings, as well as their own inner turmoils. This film, which also stars Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, and Richard Kind, is available in a four disc 3d Blu-Ray/Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a single disc DVD version. Pixar knows how to tug at the heartstrings, and they add to their collection of children and adult tears with this one. This movie is beautiful, heartwarming, gut-wrenching, and my pick of the week. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have something in my eye.
Toy Story that Time Forgot

What do you get when you take a group of toys and some of them develop delusions of grandeur? You get the plot of the movie Small Soldiers. You also get the plot of this ABC special, where Trixie the triceratops (Kristen Schaal) has to save Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys we know and love from a demented set of action figures. This special, which also stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Kevin McKidd, is available in a single disc Blu-ray + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. This could be looked at in two different ways: it could either be a cute continuation of a well-loved film franchise, or it could be looked at as the setup for a new trilogy which they are doing, because money. I’m not completely jaded, so I’m looking at it as the former. So, sit back with the family, and watch Trixie become a hero.
Vacation (R)

The Griswolds are back, and they’re going on vacation! Again. When Rusty (Ed Helms) fantasizes about family vacations of yore, he decides to pile his not-quite-estranged-but-getting-there-soon-enough family into a shady Winnebago and trek them cross-country to Walley World. Hilarity ensues. This film, which also stars Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, and Chevy Chase, is available in a single disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I was never a big Vacation fan, but I recognize that certain movies aren’t made for me. Then, there are movies that shouldn’t be made for anyone, and this falls in the latter. Look, it’s coming up on the holiday season; USA, TNT, TBS, Spike TV, and probably BBC America will be showing National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation ad nauseum for a few weeks. Watch that instead. You’ll have more fun.
