What’s going on, ProFans? I’m taking a break from dodging Christmas commercials to bring you the latest releases to home media for November 7, 2017. In this week’s episode, we discuss the secret lives of automobiles, the hottest rapper in the game, a gender-bending anime, God Saving the Queen, and what really happens when A.I. gets too advanced. Let’s get started.
Cars 3 (G)

Metascore: 59
Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is used to being at the top of the racing charts. With multiple Piston Cup titles to his name, it appears nothing can go wrong for him. But, when a new generation of lightning fast cars pass him by, he enlists the help of young race technician Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo) to help propel him back to the top spot. This film, which also stars Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, and Armie Hammer, is available in a three disc 4K UltraHD/Blu-ray + Digital HD version, a three disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version, and a single disc DVD version. This movie puts the stamp on a franchise that has been interesting, to say the least. If you have young kids who are a fan – or if you yourself are a fan, give it a watch.
Patti Cake$ (R)

Danielle MacDonald plays Patti Dombrowski, a Jersey woman who wants nothing more than to be a successful rapper. Faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, this is the story of how Patti does everything in her power to achieve her dream. This film, which also stars Patrick Brana, Cathy Moriarty, and Wass Stevens, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD + Digital HD version and a single disc DVD + Digital HD version. Normally, this would be a movie I’d actively avoid; it doesn’t seem like anything I’d remotely have interest in. But, based on the recommendation of one of the best hip-hop heads I know – PhenomBlak from Where’s My 40 Acres, I can honestly say this is something I can say go watch and enjoy.
Your Name. (Kimi No Na Wa.) (PG)

High school students Taki Tachibana (Ryunosuke Kamiki/Michael Sinterniklass) and Mitsuha Miyamizu (Mone Kamishiraishi/Stephanie Sheh) are complete strangers living separate lives in separate parts of Japan. But, when a comet passes by earth, they switch places. They do their best to make this work and make plans to meet, but something more daunting and dangerous stands in the way. Will forces outside their control separate them forever, or will fate finally bring them together? This film, which also stars Masami Nagasawa/Laura Post, Kanon Tani/Catie Harvey, and Etsuke Ichihara/Glyins Ellis, is available in a two disc Blu-ray/DVD version and a single disc DVD version. This is one of the most beautiful films to come out of Japan in quite some time, and it is highly recommended.
The Crown: The Complete First Season

This series tells the story of newly crowned Princess Elizabeth (Claire Foy), starting with her marriage to Prince Phillip (Matt Smith) to her budding relationship with Prime Minister Winston Churchill (John Lithgow), to the decline of the British Empire, and the dawn of a new era. This series, which also stars Vanessa Kirby, Eileen Atkins, and Jeremy Northam, is available in a four disc Blu-ray version and a four disc DVD version. This is a very well-acted and well-researched series, and I highly recommend checking it out.
Westworld Season One: The Maze
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 88%
Metascore: 74
Dr. Robert Ford (Sir Anthony Hopkins) is the founder of Westworld, a Wild West theme park where Hosts – lifelike android constructs – are available for the human guests to indulge their every whim. But, when one of the Hosts, a farmer’s daughter named Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood, begins to gain some form of sentience, this sets forth a chain reaction that could destroy the park forever. This series, which also stars Ed Harris, James Marsden, and Thandie Newton, is available in a three disc Blu-ray + Digital HD version and a three disc DVD version. This series was gripping from the opening scene of the opening to the very last scene of the very last episode. I highly recommend it.
