BluTuesday - October 1, 2013

Howdy, ProFans! Joseph here, and I’m bringing you some new releases in Bluray for October 1, 2013. This week’s episode features the end of the world as they know it, cavemen, bangs, and singing “high school” students. All set? Let’s go for it.

This Is The End (Two Disc Combo: Blu-ray / DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy)
(R)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 84%

This movie follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption. The movie comes in both a two disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version and a single disc DVD version. I don’t normally do comedies, but this one was funny. I highly recommend it.

The Croods (Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy)
(PG)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 69%

Surviving in a volcanic world is tough enough, but caveman Grug (Nicolas Cage) gets a rude awakening when an earthquake forces him to leave behind the only world he knows. With his family in tow, he ventures out into the volatile world in search of a new home. The situation becomes even more complicated when Grug’s family - in particular his eldest daughter - falls for a nomad (Ryan Reynolds) they encounter on their dangerous journey. This quirky, imaginative stranger’s search for ‘tomorrow’ is at odds with Grug’s reliance on the traditions of yesterday. This movie comes in a 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, a two disc Blura/DVD + Digital Copy version with an included plush doll, and a single disc DVD version. This movie is cute and it’s a lot of fun. It’s something for the whole family, and it’s also going to be my pick of the week.

New Girl: The Complete Second Season

The romantic tension between Jess (Emmy® Nominee Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) escalates in the hilarious, quirky second season of New Girl - but will they ever hook up? Meanwhile, Schmidt fails to be hip, Winston isn’t “prepared” for a hot date, and Nick faces a death in his dysfunctional family. While Jess does her best to replace Cece on a modeling job and a drunk Elvis impersonator at a funeral, Schmidt and Winston hope to rearrange Cece’s arranged marriage. Relive all 25 outrageous episodes featuring guest stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Rob Reiner and Dennis Farina, and enjoy fun bonus material - including the extended version of the hugely popular Virgins episode - only available on DVD. Well, the press blurb already said it’s only available on DVD, but it didn’t say it was a three disc DVD set, so I still have purpose. I’m a little annoyed with the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope, but…it works for Zooey Deschanel, so I’ll let her cook.

Glee: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray]

Season 4 of the exhilarating Emmy®-winning series* finds Rachel and Kurt in New York City, Finn with a surprising new career, Will and Emma at a crossroads and Sue confronting a shocking situation! Meanwhile, tension mounts as the kids in New Directions head for Regionals, facing new challenges. Featuring exciting new cast members, electrifying musical numbers, and superstar guests like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Hudson and Whoopi Goldberg, Glee remains TV’s most enthralling, most topically relevant show. *2011: Casting, Comedy Series; Guest Actress, Comedy Series (Gwyneth Paltrow). 2010: Directing, Comedy Series (Ryan Murphy); Guest Actor, Comedy Series (Neil Patrick Harris); Supporting Actress, Comedy Series (Jane Lynch); Sound Mixing, One-Hour Comedy Series. This show comes in both a four disc Bluray version and a six disc DVD version. I…I got nothin’. If you like it, have at it.

Well, that’s all the time I have for today. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss anything? Hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
