BluTuesday - October 15, 2013

Hey there, ProFans! Joseph here, and I’m brining you the newest in home media for October 15, 2013. In this week’s episode, we talk about giant robots, the galaxy far, far away, serial killers, and Visigoths. This all sound good to you? Let’s go, then.

Pacific Rim (Blu-ray+DVD+UltraViolet Combo Pack)

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 72%

When legions of monstrous alien creatures started rising from the sea, a deadly war began. To combat them, humans devised massive robots called Jaegers as weapons. But even the Jaegers proved nearly defenseless against the creatures. Now on the verge of defeat, mankind must turn to two unlikely heroes, teamed in a seemingly obsolete Jaeger, as the last hope against a mounting apocalypse. This movie comes in four different versions: a four disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + HD Digital Copy version, a three disc 3D Bluray/Bluray/DVD + HD Digital Copy version, a three disc Bluray/DVD + Digital Copy version, and a two disc DVD + Digital Copy version. I was a little confused about reviewing this movie when I first saw it, but I changed my tune shortly thereafter. I loved this movie, and it’s my pick of the week.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Complete Season Five [Blu-ray]

Executive Producer George Lucas and Lucasfilm Animation present Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Five. The galaxy’s conflicts reach critical levels of danger as the shadow of the dark side looms. A Rebellion is born as freedom fighters battle for justice on the Separatist-held planet of Onderon. A group of Jedi younglings’ new strengths are tested by pirates. Seeking revenge, the ruthless Darth Maul comes face to face with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ahsoka Tano’s loyalty to the Jedi is challenged when she must prove her innocence for a crime she didn’t commit. With unparalleled animation and sound, Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Five delivers explosive action, exotic worlds and shocking twists of fate as several major players face their destinies. This series comes in both a two disc Bluray version and a four disc DVD version. I like the Star Wars universe, but I’ve always wanted a show to go into whatever happened after Episode 6 – I mean, VI. We’re getting that soon, but at any rate, this is another return to The Clone Wars, but it’s pretty essential for Star Wars fans.

The Fall, Series 1

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) smolders as a British detective summoned to Belfast to solve a high-profile murder. She quickly recognizes the signs of a serial killer, but the culprit (Jamie Dornan, Once Upon a Time) has already targeted his next victim. Over five engrossing episodes, this psychological thriller follows both the hunter and the hunted as they attempt to outmaneuver each other in “an intriguing game of cat and mouse” (The Sunday Times, U.K.). This series comes in a two disc DVD version. I like Gillian Anderson, and we at Project Fandom love anything from the United Kingdom; I don’t know if I’ll be watching this one, though. We’ll see.

Vikings: Season One [Blu-ray]

Vikings follows the adventures of the great hero Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking chieftain seeking to fulfill his destiny as a conqueror, alongside his ambitious brother Rollo (Clive Standen) and loyal wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). Throughout his quest, Ragnar faces a path of betrayals and temptations to protect his freedom, family, and life. When Ragnar teams up with his boat builder friend Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) to craft a new generation of intrepid ships capable of conquering the rough northern seas, the stage is set for conflict. This series comes in – wait…there’s another Skarsgard?! How the hell many of them are there?! Anyway…this series comes in both a three disc Bluray version and a three disc DVD version.

Well, that’s the end of the road for this week. Got any questions or comments? Did I miss something you wanted to talk about? Well, hit me up in the comments section below.

Until next time…
